 10 players have been nominated for the Golden Stick Award. The Golden Stick Award, honouring the player of the year, is the most prestigous Czech hockey award. The winner will be announced 22 August 2009

Jaromir Jagr is the most prolific winner of the Golden Stick. Jagr has won the award 9 times. This year, he has the chance to make it to ten and win the award for the fifth time in a row.

The 10 candidates have been nominated by coaches and hockey journalists. In total 61 persons participated. In the end, 10 forwards were nominated. Lukas Mensator, Karlovy Vary's goaltender and MVP of the playoffs ended up 11th in the voting, and, thus barely outside the candidate list. Tomas Kaberle, the defenseman of Toronton, ended up 12th.
