HC Urartu has won the Armenian ice hockey championship every year since 2005. This season, Urartu's (Armenian word for Mt. Ararat) road to the championship was slightly more difficult than in previous years as the team not only lost twice to their archrivals of Dinamo Yerevan (three-fold champion before HC Urartu established its dynasty) but also found themselves one down the the first final in a best-of-three series. HC Urartu won the second final relatively comfortably 6-2, but the third and decisive final was a dramatic game which narrowly tilted to HC Urartu's advantage.
