The executive board of the Ukrainian hockey federation has decided on the format of the 2009/10 Ukrainian hockey league

The executive board of the Ukrainian federation has set up the basic format for the upcoming season. Several proposals were discussed, and the federation eventually decided to divide the teams into three groups, A, B and C.

Group A, the primary group, will have the following participants: Sokol Kiev, Bilyy Bars Brovary, HC Kharkiv, ATEK Kiev, Donbas Donetsk and Vorony Sumy. A seventh team from Dnepropetrovsk is still under discussion.

Ukraine - Ice hockey

The winner and runner-up of group A will qualify directly for the playoffs, while the teams place #3 to #6 will qualify for a play-in against the winners and runner-ups of group B and C. The best two teams in the play-ins qualify for the playoffs.
Group B and C will be played on a regional basis in the Southern and Western regions of Ukraine (participants still undecided).
The executive board also discussed a proposal for an "All-Star Game" and to broadcast the championship live on the internet.
