Neither Vasas nor Debrecen will join to the league next season. Vasas was not accepted while Debrecen decided at the end that they can not join this coming season because of the lack of sufficient funding. The seven teams from the past season all expressed their wish to play in the league in the coming season.

Below the player movements so far in the off season. The most interesting addition is without doubt the addition of Marek Uram to the HC Nové Zámky roster. With him, the returning Erik Caladi and Miroslav Stefánka the slovakian team will have a deadly first line. Miskolc's Juraj Faith also might well worth the attention. So far Miskolc lost the most key players but I'm sure they will find the way to replace them.

why Vasas wasn't accepted?

There was some problem, and a very similar situation wich didn't let Progym and Dunarea Galati join the league in 2012.
Vasas didn't had enough player for this level, and they even counted with players who are not contracted with the club, just "will be bought when we will be accepted".The teams were sceptical that there is enough "not-U23" player for 2 clubs (Debrecen and Vasas both wanted to buy players from each other...), and the economic base of the Vasas was also not at the level of the league. So they decided that only Debrecen is acceptable (more adult player, better economic situation). Debrecen - sadly - will not participiate because they are in lack of money, but next season they will.
Maybe a second league with Vasas, Debrecen, DAB2 and some other teams will be formed, so they will not left without games if they want to play.

Exactly, Vasas could not convince the league members that they will have the necessary players and money to play in the league.

Mol leagues has proved as one of the great hockey league in last few seasons, who allows to lot of Hungarian/Romanian players play like professionals. The number of foreigners is limited which is excellent because domestic players do not losing time on the ice during the games. Quality of league is better and better, and in the near future I expect to be like Ebel.

p.s.
I think it is a pity that Slohokej did not come in the situation of being part of the Mol league because it has shown that teams from Slovenia are not weak, as some would like to describe. Finally, Slavija and Triglav showed that in the Aut2 league where they took 2nd and 3rd place

Big applause to MOL!

MOL is stronger than Austrian led Inter-national liga. I supposed that extreme distances between Slovenia and Romania killed the joint venture between Slohokej and MOL from the very beginning. In addition, new leadership of Slovenian hockey decided to give up any idea of running Slovenian hockey and put everything older than 16 in the hands of Austrians.

In five years, Slovenian junior national teams shall start to drop, in ten years the senior team. Sochi is going to be a swan song of Slovenian hockey.

kerusz, would you happen to have DAB.Docler test matches, more specially who they invited to come play in the Docler Cup? Bietigheim has the tournament from 23-25.August with them, hosts, Strasbourg and Piešťany. Piešťany however has same dates but list Olimpija Ljubljana and Briançon (who says are playing in Rudi Hiti)

For me, the main problem of MOL league for expansion is Romanian clubs in that league and it is mainly becouse the distance for other clubs who possible wants to join in MOL league.
Hungarian league without Romanian clubs is much more atractive league for cooperation with another leagues(west leagues) then MOL league with Romanian clubs.

The biggest problem is that Romania is the last country in that region who have good ice hockey and there is no other country for serious cooperations with them, all the rest neighboring countries( Serbia, Moldavia, Bulgaria or Turkey) are bullshit especially Bulgaria:-/

Romanian teams are playing in MOL because they are, in fact ... ethnic Hungarian teams. There are strong relations between Hungarians on both sides of the border and it is impossible to imagin Hungarians voluntarily abandoning their brethren in Csíkszereda or Brasov for the sake of getting some outside team into the league.

At the present moment, the main concern of Hungarian hockey is the loss of Sapa as well as influence that EBYSL and EBEL U18 have on Hungarian junior leagues.

In fact it is interesting how both Hungary and Slovenia play to the Austrian tune as if they have absolutely no say in whole business related to EBEL, EBYSL, EBELU18 and INL.

Very soon :) although Dunaujvaros and Csikszereda already have strong teams, and infrastructure, that could play EBEL .. with for example 7-8 good imports (and basic domestic roster) I do not think they had any problems in the EBEL league. Agree?

Do you think Fehervar and "Hungarian hockey" (for whatever this should be defined) was better off if the club wouldn't play in EBEL thus offering a level of competition to their players that couldn't even remotely be reached in MOL Liga or a similar construction?
Why is DAB trying to get into EBEL rather than (jointly with the rest of the HUN teams) convincing Fehervar to leave and join MOL Liga for example? Are the club representatives bribed by Erste Bank or how do you explain that?

Same for EBYSL and EBJL (mind you these projects are very new), if they are so detrimental for Hungary as you seem to suggest. Why are the HUN clubs opting to participate?

Are you sure that you don't mistake playing to the "Austrian tune" as simply the result of cooperation of clubs that all share the same problem (lack of domestic counterparts to form a sustainable league on the appropriate level) and try to overcome it by working together irrespective of national borders? And isn't INL a joint project of the Slovenian, Austrian (and Italian) federations?

Welcome to hockey conspiracy theory...

Fehervar as a mid to lower end EBEL team easily got by whoever they have played in the Hungarian championships whenever they did which gives a clear picture how the top MOL teams relate to the lower end of EBEL. 7-8 "good" imports would certainly help to close the gap a little but that crucial point is where the clubs you have mentioned are going to take the money from to hire these good imports. Adding anonymous imports to existing teams and phantasizing who good they would be is one thing actually raising the money to hire these players is another and therefore the argument becomes void.
Unfortunately we don't see DAB in EBEL now (I would have liked this addition a lot) but if they did I can't really see how they would put a roster together that would not struggle around in the lower end of the league.

For even the best MOL teams to get on anything else than bottom EBEL level in the "near future" I think there is a lack of depth and top level talent in the domestic player pool as well as a big lack of money to get the necessary imports. For other then the best MOL teams EBEL level of hockey is imho completely out of reach. Maybe DAB would have raised the budget to get back some of the good Hungarians playing abroad and get EBEL fit imports but even so I think they would have struggled initially. So no, I don't agree.

Rex, it's really surprises me how the hell did you forget about the EBEL history of the past some years.

Yes, a second competitive Hungarian team can play in EBEL without having any reasonable impact on the Hungarian hockey. Just think about EBEL-stronghold Medvescak Zagreb (and the awkwardly disastrous shining of the Croatian National Team on the World Championships in the past some years. Or am I the only one feeling the discrepancy between the tons of naturalized croatian players and the embarrassing results of Team Croatia in the div. II A?)

There are really nice tools which can help in that, for example the point rule.

A very simple recipe is to have 14 foreign players on the roster, 2 U22 foreign players and some naturalized players younger than 22. But if you naturalize some of your foreigners you might come out from less than 60 points. It's just the matter of strategy of the club. So don't worry about the competitiveness of Dab.Docler, it's just matter of money but their main patron have practically unlimited money.

************************************

And yes, the other clubs used to try to bring back Fehérvár to MOL Liga, the reason why it is not successful is very simple. To play in EBEL secures Fehérvár the status of the outstanding club in Hungary, with the possibility to harvest practically the whole Hungarian hockey. As Ice-hockey is a developing sport here Fehérvár dominates the hockey news and the market here, and the other teams also have to make them possible to come back at the end of the season and see that with their harvested roster they even don't let them to win a title. With that they are also dominating on the sponsoring market.

Of course, EBEL is a stronger league than MOL Liga by its nature, for example by the rule which practically does not restrict the number of the foreign players, because EBEL has much bigger attention internationally, and much better contacts (Hockey Europe for example or European Trophy), also with some other rather psychological issues (what is Austrian, shall be good, what is domestic, shall be bad), so players do not think too much to go there because they think EBEL is the much easier way to get contracts with a foreign club. And a young player always thinks that even if many others were not successful in the past, they will be the lucky exceptions, "if I don't try it, I would never excuse myself", they say.

This is what made Dab to try to find the way there, because in the past seasons Fehérvár just simply harvested them all the time and they had simply no chance to keep their players. If they want to keep the players they raised they have to play on the same level where the rival plays.

Nowadays (and this became even more obvious with the EBYSL) Fehérvár also harvests the junior players by promising them EBEL, EBYSL and whatsoever - last season they signed 5 goalies from the junior teams of Dunaújváros, almost left their two junior teams (U14, U16) without goalies. What can the others do? If Fehérvár plays in Austria (and with that they have unlimited access to the Hungarian player pool), and they don't want to lose players, they also have to go somewhere, let it be Slovakia or Austria or whatever, just not Hungary. (Interesting enough that Fehérvár had more close matches this season in the jokingly short HUN U20 championships than they had in the EBYSL)

What makes many people make deep thoughts is the fact that exactly Fehérvár was the team which did not find important to have a junior team 7 years ago, they dissolved their U20 team and with that they killed the U20 championships at the same time by leaving only 2 operating teams in U20.

Since then we were struggling to have an U20 championship, while Fehérvár was on its own way with raising young talents in the Titans project (farm team), resulting in 3 players during the past 7 years: Bálizs, Kóger and Sofron. Every other Fehérvár-raised young player had to leave the club or they even quit hockey because they simply did not got the chance in the EBEL to demonstrate their talent. You might ask, why. The reason is really simple: EBEL needs a lot of money, the ratio in the budget between Fehérvár and Dab.Docler or Miskolc is around 5:1 or 4:1. Sponsors need results, which did not let the club make a try with their youngsters. Instead, they just signed from Dunaújváros or wherever from Hungary.

Interesting enough that Fehérvár was the biggest opponent of the idea having an MHL team (Patriot) in Hungary - well, yes, that provided them a rival in the U18-U20 level...

As I mentioned, hockey is a developing sport here, that means that 10 years ago it was existing in 4 or 5 towns only and now it exists in 8 or 9 towns only. The new hockey towns have no tradition, they have to fight for every single kid who later will join to the ice hockey family. That means that despite the obvious development, icehockey is still very vulnerable, unlike in Austria or Slovenia where traditions are obvious. If we let the clubs do whatever they want (play wherever they want), it will result that at the end we will have clubs that will simply not have a single opponent to play with. With that we can gradually kill (mostly the new and weak) hockey towns. This is why the Federation shall have a certain power, only they can provide that a systematic and coordinated development of the sport will happen.

A club will never take the responsibility for the development of the icehockey as the sport in a whole, simply, because the logic of the club does not allow this.

That's totally wrong, EBEL and MOL Liga are two different approaches and worlds.

Do you think Fehervar and "Hungarian hockey" (for whatever this should be defined) was better off if the club wouldn't play in EBEL thus offering a level of competition to their players that couldn't even remotely be reached in MOL Liga or a similar construction?

There are many different ways to reach a certain level - Danish hockey is above Austrian but the Danish championships is (at least this is my opinon) not as good as EBEL. So I think there might be several roads, EBEL is one of them, and is certainly not a project aiming to raise the level of the Hungarian hockey. I think EBEL is not interested in the level of the Hungarian hockey at all, EBEL is only interested to have a competitive team in Hungary, because it's hockey market is more valuable so.

Why is DAB trying to get into EBEL rather than (jointly with the rest of the HUN teams) convincing Fehervar to leave and join MOL Liga for example? Are the club representatives bribed by Erste Bank or how do you explain that?

The reason is to keep their players.

Same for EBYSL and EBJL (mind you these projects are very new), if they are so detrimental for Hungary as you seem to suggest. Why are the HUN clubs opting to participate?

Again: to keep their players.

Are you sure that you don't mistake playing to the "Austrian tune" as simply the result of cooperation of clubs that all share the same problem (lack of domestic counterparts to form a sustainable league on the appropriate level) and try to overcome it by working together irrespective of national borders?

Fehérvár had domestic counterpart until it left for EBEL.

And isn't INL a joint project of the Slovenian, Austrian (and Italian) federations?

And as such, it got the green light from Italy (see your pessimistic and my more optimistic comments in the INL topic about it)

Very soon :) although Dunaujvaros and Csikszereda already have strong teams, and infrastructure, that could play EBEL .. with for example 7-8 good imports (and basic domestic roster) I do not think they had any problems in the EBEL league. Agree?

7-8 good imports would not be enough for them to be competitive, I'm afraid.

Luckily enough EBEL rules make possible to have much more good imports on the roster.

There are many different ways to reach a certain level - Danish hockey is above Austrian but the Danish championships is (at least this is my opinon) not as good as EBEL.

That is an imprecise and imho misleading statement. To be sufficiently precise you would have to say that the Danish national team is better than the Austrian (still DK didn't qualify for Sochi while AUT did). In your statement you are more than less equating "hockey in country X" with the national team of country x. You can do that for yourself but you cant't raise that to a general criterion. Exactly for that reason I always write however "hockey in country x" shall be defined. If I include other dimensions that obviously are relevant for the sport in the country (e.g. competitiveness and attractiveness of the leagues) in the comparison I absolutely deny the statement that Danish hockey is above Austrian. Denmark is doing very well in developing a certain number of good to very good young players every year and they run their NT pretty well but other than that hockey in Denmark is nothing spectacular (look at how the league draws). In short, what hockey in a specific country means is not up to an objective definition and may defy to be ranked meaningfully.

So I think there might be several roads, EBEL is one of them, and is certainly not a project aiming to raise the level of the Hungarian hockey. I think EBEL is not interested in the level of the Hungarian hockey at all, EBEL is only interested to have a competitive team in Hungary, because it's hockey market is more valuable so.)

Partly agree. But we are again in the grey zone of defining what "Hungarian hockey" is. The reason Fehervar is in EBEL is that they are willing and able to run hockey on a level no other club in Hungary can (except maybe DAB...I hope they are given the chance to show it soon) AND that EBEL needed teams that are willing and able to compete. This two sided gain from trade got the deal done. The rest, namely that whatever number of Hungarian players Fehervar chooses to play with can get to a level of competition that is far beyond anything that could be reached in a MOL Liga kind of approach is the basis for improvement for also e.g. the national team. To take advantage of this imho undeniable benefit is not EBEL's job.

The reason is to keep their players.

Sounds plausible. But there's nothing wrong with that. The best players go to the best organisations, i.e. to the clubs they can earn the most money at or develop the best. In the Hungarian case this is obviously Fehervar for all the reasons you have lined out above. So DAB trying to get on level terms is a natural reaction. The whole thing is called competition and that's what sport is about mainly (not exclusively).

Again: to keep their players.

Again: that's competition taking the shape of international cooperation.

Fehérvár had domestic counterpart until it left for EBEL.

Not on the level they were aiming for. Obviously getting tougher but non-domestic competiton was more apealling to them (for good reasons).

And as such, it got the green light from Italy (see your pessimistic and my more optimistic comments in the INL topic about it)

Yes, at last an international project that the dinosaurs didn't try to keep from materializing. Keep in mind that at least on the Austrian and even more so on the Italian side the clubs were the main forces behind the project. The Italian federation basically was forced to agree because the clubs were unhappy for long enough with how Serie A2 was working and simply demanded a change.

Hockey in Hungary has made a huge rise in the last 10 years, and last season was the most organized. Excelent teams, cooperation was made with a team from Slovakia league as well as the usual presence of teams from Romania. Regardless of what the number of foreign players is limited the level of hockey is great as it confirmed by the interviews of foreign coaches.

I expect that the level of hockey for 10 years will be very close to Ebel league because it is open a lot of new arenas in Hungary, and therefore conditions have become much better for many young players who are coming from youth to senior level. Generally, the ice hockey is no longer a privilege of a few rich countries!

Sorry for this little overview..

Rory Rawlyk joined the UK EIHL Dundee Stars not Sanok? Unless the brackets mean something else :P

Yes, sorry, I did not notice it - first he signed for Sanok then he changed his mind and went to the EIHL. I corrected it.

Previos season Brasov made a great team but did not took the place in playoff, and i missed my guess before the season. What i can see now is that lot of teams have equal chances in batlle for 4 top places. Maybe Ferencvaros is my new team for lovely surprise because there is Hakan Nigren, there are interesting imports from Swe3 (division 1), and it is time to Budapest city take the title :) . Miskolc also very strong, about Dunaujvaros is stupid to talk, Nove Zamky signed good players too, Ujpest is great young team remind me to Jesenice :) , same as Csikszereda.

So, full respect to you Kerusz, and for Hungarian league, - and not just for senior level but for all organisation in youth categories too. This is realy a dream for most of countries, and for most of people who love watching the hockey games.

For me this is the biggest signing of the MOL Liga off-season. Balázs Ladányi, the iconic player of the Hungarian hockey, returns to his first club. Ladányi only played in Dunaújváros until he was 29, than he spent 2 seasons in Újpest, an other 2 in Briancon, 3 and a half in Fehérvár and half in Bolzano. Now he returns to Dab.Docler and I think he will be a real magnet for the fans.

Unbelievable.

Welcome in MOL Liga, Godó!
