Preparation game between HUN and GER on 8th April was planned to be played in this new rink, but the construction is not yet finished (game will be played in the Koriközpont - ex-Astrazeneca Arena - instead. The construction of the rink will be finished in the middle of April. I will post photos if rink is ready.

It will be another small, modern rink for about 1,500-1,800 spectators. It seems, it will be the new home ice of team FTC (currently they use the Koriközpont, sharing that rink with the youth players of the Budapest Stars).

I have a question about the new arena for Alba. I saw a picture on the net on how it should look like (really nice and oval for arround 6000 spectators). And i am wondering if that arena is allready beeing build? And if not, then if someone knows when? Also, for how much €?

Lep pozdrav!

Hello zamo!

Rink is planned to be built until 2010. Capacity would be for a total of 8,500 spectators. No news about how much € it would be. Sorry for late answer. :)

In the newsletter of the Hungarian Ice-Hockey Federation there is a short notice about two planned indoor rinks: One is in Jászberény where the old rink (http://hockeyarenas.net/index.php3?page=3000&ctID=hu&size=0&arID=1704) is closed since 2001., and the other in Budafok, the southern part of Budapest on the right bank of the Danube. Both are new rinks, in Jászberény they do not plan to renovate the old one.
Jászberény is especially important as the town had a really good team and big attendance. The planned date of opening for both rinks is next year.

Big news in Hungarian hockey: the first season of the new rink in Jászberény (http://hockeyarenas.net/index.php3?page=3000&ctID=hu&size=0&arOrder=arOrt&arID=2105) has started on wednesday. It was a big fiesta in the town, crowds were going to skate on the first day, also, an evening training for hockey players have seen 15 people and on the next training on thursday there were already 20 participants. Some players from the 1990 champion local Lehel HC have already joined. There are plans to start ice-hockey in the second league as soon as possible.

Jászberény has great traditions in the ice sports in Hungary, besides of the well-known ice-hockey team, most of the short track speed skaters are also coming from this town. The old rink of the refrigerator factory outside the town was not in use since 2001. Since then the ice-rink was always a hot issue in the local politics.

The rink itself is an outdoor rink at the moment, which will be operated until march. After march construction workers will arrive again and will build a hall above the rink. In the next season the it will open again as an indoor rink with a capacity for 350...400 spectators at first. This capacity can be increased according to the plans.

Here (http://jegkorong.blog.hu/2008/02/08/meg_tobb_jegcsarnokot) is an article about the opening of the new rink (unfortunately in Hungarian), and here (http://www.jasznaplo.hu/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=thumbnails&album=458) is a photo album which follows the construction of the rink from the beginning to the first days.

Good news that kerusz!

With Lehel (will they retain the name btw?), the second division should get some better esteem. Maybe even a promotion/relegation series between the 1st and 2nd leagues (which I'm a fan of, I simply despise closed leagues).

Quite frankly, the second division in Hungary is no more than a beer league at this moment, or am I wrong? I really don't distinguish it much from the amateur leagues.

Actually, three teams are serious in the second league, MAC and Debrecen have teams from U8 up to senior, and more than 150 players in different age-groups, just they cannot afford at the moment the participation in the first league. DAB-Jégtörők is the farm team of DAB.Extra.hu where junior players of DAB often play.

It is really great seeing thet Hungarian hockey is developing the way it is. I think that you have a great potential. I just hope that Alba will also play in the next year in EBEL league - working with minors is important, enhancing visibility of hockey also!

Yes! excellent! I also wanted to write you (since there are some more new rinks), just did not find the time... Szolnok rink opened two years ago, this is their third season. The rink itself is 40x15m, and there are quite a lot of skaters every day. Next year the rink will be moved somewhere else from its recent place as they want to increase the size (nearly a standard size rink is planned next year) and there is no more place where it is operating now.

This year we have new rinks in Szekszárd (20x40m) - home of very nice wines - and Törökbálint (15x30m) as well. In Szekszárd they immediately began to organize a local team for kids.

So if they don't up the number of games, the second league can never be a stage for promotion to the top league. I hope this changes already in the next season. Even if the teams are poor they could surely manage at least the double amount of games?

I didn't know that Gyor build (or roofed) their rink. It was tournament U13 in Belgrade and team Gyor took the first place, in front of domestic club Beostar. Every time when I see how Hungarian hockey growing with new ice rinks I am more and more dissapoint with conditions in my "village" Subotica.

I´m definetely sure a indoor rink makes HUGE difference.Just look at the developement in Hungary past decade, it has been big upgrade in more players and more talented players. It´s all comes down to m o n e y, persons with deep pockets and interest for hockey to invest in a rink/club. I´m sure cities like Subotica or Sisak (Croatia) would get a boom if an indoor rink, even if small one.

The official website of the icerink in Győr is here: http://jegpalya.hu/

The rink itself was covered with Graboplan canvas built on a metal structure (kind of permanent tent) in 2003 or so. This is commercially available (http://www.graboplan.hu/eng/), and is much cheaper than a permanent building, but requires compromises.

The town made a complete renovation of the ice rink recently (in 2010, including the renovation of the cooling technology). This allows them to have ice for 6...7 months, the ice season will end on 20th april in the 2011/12 season. During the summer time there is a standard in-line overlay on the concrete, this is the only one which fulfills the IIHF in-line standards. So the kids can be on ice for 7 months, and on the remaining time of the year they play in-line.

Tüske Csarnok in Budapest have opened. The facility was planned to be opened for the 1996 Budapest/Vienna World Exposition, but since the Expo was cancelled, the construction of the arena was stopped. It is ready in about 50%, and the conversion to an ice-rink just meant that an IIHF size (with minimum standard dimensions) mobile rink was installed in the main hall, six rooms were converted to dressing room under the stands (without water), and additional dressing rooms with showers and toilets were installed outside the building in containers.

Once it will be ready the facility will have the main arena with more than 2000 seats, three training halls, plenty of dressing rooms, a 2-storey garage and several other facilities, but for that an additional investment of millions of euros is needed (only the structure is ready, the electricity, water, etc. is not available inside the whole building).

Therefore, the capacity of the arena is limited now, only a small part of the stands is opened for the spectators.

The main thing is still, that the city got a new standard size icerink which will be available for almost 365 days in a year and 24 hours in a day. The rink is located in one of the best possible place in the city, immediately at the Univeristy Campus, 5 mins from the busiest tram line in the heart of the biggest district of the town and on the Buda side where until now there was not a single standard size rink.

One has to ask how can Hungary, despite its economic situation, build and maintain so many rinks in the last decade, while we in Croatia can't even put the roof over our existing open rinks. I guess in addition to our oil company we should have sold our hockey federation as well, :o)

I think his site is more than okay. But you are free to do a better if you can.

In this case you gave him a false info, you wrote that this is a new rink in Miskolc what is not true. Dan has to rely on infos from contributors, don't make him fool and then he will be able to update his site correctly.

well first of all i already have made it better, i have my own Google-earth world wide map of "active" arenas for ice hockey, that i made myself as a hobby of mine and proud of it. i discovered long time ago that hockeyarenas is far from a reliable information database, it is okay yes, but very far from complete. and why did he post a new rink whiteout dubblecheck it, if i said Macedonia have 23 new ice hockey arenas he would post it in a sek. and first of all i did not post the pictures for him or hockeyarenas.net but for the rest of us here on the forum :-)
