    Those were the days ....

Those were the days when we could raise a full team of players from the south, despite austerity, rink problems and no input of players or helpers from the North.
I wonder if such an effort will ever be possible again - It pains me to say that at this time none of those players with the exception of Dermot Carney is sill involved to any great extent in the sport any more. That is the case for so many people disillusioned by the sports rapid decline in recent years.
Then again these were also the times when we had a dedicated leadership and Willy Fay showed no interest in the U18 project choosing to involve himself only in games in which he could partake.
Even then he was just a player of questionable talent without any aspirations for the improvement of the game here.
Now of course he is a President of even more questionable talent without any aspirations for the improvement of the game here.

I'm sorry to see that Graham Carey's shirt is also up for sale on eBay and that one is game worn.
That other one was a freebie to a dweebie, I'm sorry to say and was never worn during a game.

The shirt off his back - for a price !

    I should explain....
xunearthhxcx had a "game worn" Irish shirt up for sale on ebay.
I got a tip off from a poster on this site and made some enquiries about it. It turned out that the name on the shirt was Griffin so I recommended that xunearthhxcx checked out the roster for the U18 of '99.
svetovy pohar kindly obliged with the squad list for the Irish team and as I was aware there was no player of that name on the team, but our friend from this forum Mr. Tony Griffin was, along with one or two others, given a Team Ireland shirt at that time - for assistance he provided with the preperation of the team.
Personally I am undecided as to which is worse, or speaks more eloquently about a man...
That he sells off the only Team Ireland shirt he is ever likely to be awarded, or that he lies to someone telling them that it was game worn.

On a different note, I searched in Google for "Team Ireland Hockey Jersey" and got this: http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2006/09/w...-all-time.html

Take a look at number 10.

Regarding Team Ireland, you should be aware that shilleleigh's exist only in the minds of Americans. To Irish people Shilleleigh is a town in Wicklow.
The Harp device is associated all over the world as Irish, and is the official symbol used by the Irish Government in it's coat of arms, and, we are very lucky that we are allowed use it and had to go to some lengths to obtain permission.

No, barbecuing all week, and I don't have to travel 100 miles to do it.
