    Phoenix Portland Pirates Thread 2011-2012

With affiliation complete attention turns to building a team
Published on: 30th June, 2011 by Chris Roy

Portland, ME – Brian Petrovek believes the newly signed affiliation with the Phoenix Coyotes will continue to raise the bar on past partnerships with the Portland Pirates.

With free agency less than 24 hours away, the Coyotes have said they plan to be actively aggressive in the marketplace when the clock strikes noon on Friday.

Well as they say the proof will be in the pudding to see if they intend to as sincere as Petrovek indicates they are in putting a competitive team in Portland.

Any talk of the Pirates changing their colours to match the Coyotes?

I am sure the fans will miss some of the players that the Sabres had.

They are changing their uniforms, but colors are staying the same... It was planned before the affiliations shift.

    Former Pirate named assistant coach
Published on: 4th August, 2011 by Chris Roy

    What’s old is new again.

For long-time supporters of the Portland Pirates, the name of former Pirates’ defenseman John Slaney carried with it a certain nostalgia. Now, they’ll just have to look behind the coaches’ bench on game nights as the former defenseman returns to a place where he had success during the early part of his career, catapulting him to become a highly regarded player in the American Hockey League.

    Edwards ‘disgusted’ by Pirates loss
By Chris Roy Published: 29th October 2011

Portland, ME – This was about as ugly of a loss that the Portland Pirates have endured this season.

To make matters worse it was on home ice where the Pirates have lost four straight games as the Manchester Monarchs scored twice in the first period and added three goals in the third period for a 5-2 victory before a sellout crowd (6,749) at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Portland, ME – The sky isn’t falling, but admittedly for the Portland Pirates this current nine-day break couldn’t have come at better time.
