Ben and the guys are obviously busy.

They'll update us when they can.

I don't believe HC Metula still has a website. The other websites don't have any updates as of a day or two ago.

Israeli hockey is a labor of love.....nobody makes money at it, so updates are not 24/7 like the NHL.

    Happy Chanukah, by the way!
    I was asking half-jokingly.

I know it's not 24/7, but it's almost been a month since the last update

Haifa, considering all of the old guys that play for them, has done surpirsingly well so far. I thought Rishon would win that game.

And look at Afula getting their first win, over Rishon-2! Well done! Granted, Rishon-2 is the other botton-end team, but again, I would have expected Afula to lose this game.

    December 23rd scores:
Holon Jet Turtles - Rishon Devils I 0:12
Rishon Devils II - Bat Yam Icebergs 1:11
(Note: this was a slight change to the original schedule, not sure of any other changes to future games)

Also, Victor is in Ukraine so that's why the federation website has not been updated for a month or so, he returns this week I Believe.

I would assume both Graham and Steigs know how - certainly Graham would. I don't know if he follows this thread, so you may want to send him a PM.

HC Bat Yam is on twitter, and to my knowledge is the first to do so from Israel Hockey. Follow them here: https://twitter.com/#!/HCBatYam

I figured HC Metulla would be weaker this season, but I am still surprised that they are off to a 1-3 start with losses to both an elderly Haifa team and the Rishon Ice Devils.

Has any video been taken of games from this season? I can't find anything on Youtube.

Found some video, not that great. Mostly focused on the goalie. It's only the Holon vs Herzliya game.

Thanks for that....there are actually a few clips from the game on YouTube that you can see in the related videos sidebar. In a 19-0 game, the focus would be on the Holon goalies, eh? :)

Amazing how seven or eight years ago, Holon was Maccabi Amos Lod and dominated the league (albeit with a totally different roster), and played in the IIHF Continental Cup. Then they became Rishon Le-Zion (not the Ice Devils from Rishon), then Bat Yam 2, and now the Holon/Bat Yam Jet Turtles, and have sunk to the bottom of the standings the past 3 or 4 seasons.

What school did he play for, David?

What ECHL team gave him a tryout?

14 goals in one period is a bit rough............

The league awards 3 points for a regulation win, 2 points for an overtime or shoot out win, 1 point for an overtime or shootout loss, and 0 points for a regulation loss.

    I will post the current standings (minus the Haifa-Holon score, which I don't have) in the following format.....regulation wins-OT/SO wins-OT/SO losses-regulation losses-points-goals for-goals against.

I'll edit my last post to include that score, and there were a couple of forfeits apparently - another by Afula and one by Herzliya. That's worrisome.

Ma'alot forfeited the game against Maccabi Metulla that was scheduled for tonight. Maccabi Metulla gets technical win.
I have no idea what's their reason.

There's a whole separate thread on it.

Anyway, getting back to the Israeli League, why are we seeing so many forfeits this season? Afula twice, Herzliya and Maalot once each.......not good.

The ice time is already booked, so I doubt that is the reason. Probably guys being unable to make it for one reason or another. Still, sad to see.

I don't know what's Ma'alot reason as a team they're one of the top in the league and for them to not show up for a game seems kinda strange.
Herzeliya showed up for the game but with a small team. During that game they lost 2 guys, 1 for injury the other was a game penalty. So the game ended as a forfeit.
I also recently heard that their Ice closed, anyone know something about this?

    A third forfeit by Afula?

Sorry, but I would kick them out of the league.

Whether intentional or not, this many forfeits hurts the other teams.

Perhaps they can combine with Herzliya, who also seems to have trouble icing a full squad.

I have not had time to update the standings.....if anyone can update them with team name, number of games played, wins, OT/SO wins, losses, OT/SO losses, points, goals for and goals against, would be much appreciated. If not, I will try to get to it this weekend.

The league should be able to scrape up somebody with a video camera who is willing to record games, or at least clips......it would do a lot to promote the league. YouTube and other video outlets are powerful tools.

If I had to take a guess on who would make the top 4, it would be: Bat-Yam Icebergs, Maccabi Metula, Ma'alot, and Haifa Hawks.

If Bat-Yam wins over Ma'alot, Ma'alot will be in a tight position not making it to the playoffs.
