I'll be surprised if Slovakia doesn't win this one... No matter the roster they send, they're still considered an elite nation, and have good depth of prospects every year when compared to the other nations in this tournament.

I see Norway as the only challenger for promotion, but in the end Slovakia should win this.

Anything but promotion would be a huge disappointment. However I´m sure Norway will bea strong opponent.

It seems that SVK-FRA and SVK-NOR games will be televised live on STV: http://www.stv.sk/relacieaz/dvojka/hokej-ms-18/

Haven´t heard anything about Huste yet. However I know that http://infonet.tv/# has Saturday´s Slovakia U18- Belarus U18 exhibition game in their schedule and they have previoudly broadcasred from junior tournaments played in Piešťany, including the U18 Vladimír Dzurilla Memorial in February, so it´s possible they will show the U18WC as well. But they don´t have it in their program yet, so who knows. But if the new SZĽH leaders are as serious about the whole propagation thing at least onf of huste/infonet should have the Slovakia games. Worst case scenario, there are ways to go around the IP thing...

I'd be very surprised if Slovakia had problems here... Maybe though Norway will cause a major brawl with Slovaks and both teams will be DSQ and somebody else will go to the elite

rusher, and what reason would the Norwegians have for causing a maor browl? I mean I´m pretty sure they´re only aim is promotion just as it is for Slovakia. Also, I feel like some of you might be overrating Slovakia and kinda jinxing us :). In the old system I would have little doubts about our promotion, but with this new one- having to win 5 games in 7 days, including beating Norway I´m far from 100% sure, especially having in mind that our U20 team actually lost to Slovenia last summer for example.

    Info on streaming
During the SVK-BLR games the announcer from infonet.tv announced that they were planning to cover the WC games too (all SVK games and maybe even some non SVK games). However there´s the issue with the rights, they tried to contact the IIHF regarding this, but got no answer. They now tried it through the Slovak federation and we have yet to see whether it will work out. Since this is Slovakia I wouldn´t be shocked if STV has exclusive rights and infonet won´t be able to stream the games even though STV isn´t showing most of them. But I hope that won´t happen...

here's a text "streaming" for all todays matches - and as it seems the streaming will be on for all matches from the whole tournament:

    http://www.onlajny.eu/match/index/id/37515

it is in slovak, but i guess the google translator can help, at least a little bit...

No, there aren´t. Overall in the last few years there has been a trend that our players started to go to the CHL only once they reached 18 year of age (after the first year they were eligible for the NHL draft). For example there are currently 8 1993 born players in the CHL and out of them only two have played there last year too. A good trend I think, because this way they usually get at least a year of juniors if not even with men instead of only playing U18 before coming over. The only 1994 born player that was picked in 2011 import draft Marko Daňo also decided to wait for one more year (well technically he said so already before the draft and the Cougars took the risk to wait for him). Though I guess it is also because 1994 is kinda a weak birthyear, so I´m sure there will be some 95 born CHLers from Slovakia next year.

Surprisingly small win for Slovakia, good work by Italy it seems, the keeper especially.

Well, i dont agree. Italian youth hockey has played well in defence for some years and are rarely beating with high scores.

But nice to see Dano on the scoresheet from the start of this tournament :-)

I´d say it was more about lack of effectivity on Slovakia´s side from what I´ve seen- Reway for example had a quadrillion chances and yet he´s not even on the score sheet ("good" to know that this effectivity thing is always the same for the Slovak NT, no matter what the age). Our players were kinda trying to be fancy, trying to combine etc. But it´s necessary that they improve in this, especially the other lines- I mean 4 out of 5 goals from just one line against Italy. Happy to see them not letting in any goals, but then again Italy had like one real chance in the whole game, so...

I liked Italy when we faced them last year and won with some problems 3:0, obviously it's not the same team but I'd rather play France or GBR in this level than Italy as their defense is really good for a mediocre Division 1 team and they're not that bad actually overall. If they try hard, they can upset Norvegians

Two Slovak players ended in the hospital after today´s game. Richard Buri will probably forced to stay there, seems like a concussion and Stanislav Horanský has an injured shoulder...

You were right, rusher. Italy upsests the Norwegians 3-6 in the 2nd game tonight. Suddenly 5-0 isn´t looking too bad :)

Kinda surprising to see Slovaks strugling a bit vs Japan but I believe it's only natural that Slovak players would struggle to find much motivation to play 100% against Japan... Whatever coach they'd have.

Norway's in deep **** now, even if they beat Slovaks which would be an incredible feat by itself, they have to hope that Italy loses points against other teams (and have to collect points themselves). If you outshoot your opponent 33-19, you should at least try to to take the game you're losing to overtime... not lose by 3:6...

Norway goalie stats for this game should be awful.

I support idea of playing foreign junior league if a player stays at home to play it. Leaving country at this age is bad for development of a kid (general). Do you want example?

what i wanted to say is you cant use generalisation like that... it is totaly individual thing how a person will react... you can find examples going both ways... and of course, not only in hockey

After first period Slovakia vs Slovenia 1-1. The interesting part are the shots: 13-1. I doubt anyone had a 0% after a period in a long while:)

If I am not mistaken then Latvia vs Hungary in Olympic qualification also had the same 0% after the first since Hun scored on their only shot.
