    - KHL President Alexander Medvedev announced that the league will stage two regular-season games in Brooklyn, New York in January 2013. Possible teams could be CSKA Moscow, Dynamo Moscow, Avangard Omsk, Salavat Yulayev Ufa and SKA St. Petersburg.

    - “Tough guy team” Vityaz Chekhov will continue to play in the KHL next season. The financial question marks are eliminated according to Medvedev, who told Sport-Express the team will continue to play with power and its fighting style, but stop “clowning around with goons”.

    - Another team is threatened to disappear. According to media reports Metallurg Novokuznetsk is not able to pay the players and staff anymore as club sponsor Evraz won’t cover debts summing up to 250 million Rubles (€6m).

    - The KHL will be joined by three foreign teams next year: Lev Prague (relocation of Slovak club Lev Poprad) will become the first Czech club and is expected to share the T-Mobile Arena with Sparta Prague after no agreement could be found with the bigger and newer O2 Arena, home of Slavia Prague. Other new entries will be Slovan Bratislava from Slovakia and Donbass Donetsk from Ukraine. There has been no news recently about Milano Rossoblù, the Italian club that was once announced to join the KHL for the 2012/2013 season.

Fair point. If it's a case of, sponsor putting all the money in, management of the team wasting it all they it'll make sense why nobody would want to sponsor them

For once, could the number of participating teams get sorted out prior august? So that there wouldn't be a sudden rush of compiling a new calendar, changing divisions, etc.

Avangard Omsk signed Slovak Tomaš Zaborsky from Assat Pori. Last season he was winner of Lasse Oksanen award that is awarded to the best player of the regular season in SM-Liiga.

Dinamo Riga signs Rob Schremp. Looks like we are getting pretty solid import line this year with him and Giroux being point machines in AHL and Schremp actually has some decent stats in NHL.

Mats Zuccarello tweeted that he has signed with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. He thanked the Ranger fans and his teammates, saying he loved them all, but told a Norwegian newspaper that he felt he was not given a fair shot by the Rangers' management.

He said that while the NHL is the world's best league and being with the Ranger organization for two years was 'a dream,' he also said that the KHL 'is a great league with great hockey' and that he is excited to play there.

I personally agree with him....the Ranger management did not give him a real chance to become a regular. A shame, as he is definitely NHL caliber.

I wish him much success with Metallurg, and think he will be one of the best offensemen in the KHL.

Totally agree! Not being biased either! What's the deal, good negotiating on behalf of Dinamo or have they upped the salary budget? Not to say these are to bank breaking signings but they are strong ones.

With guys like Ozo, Rēdlihs and Sprukts gone there is definitely some extra capacity in the budget department. I assume they can afford to spend more on imports this year than they could last season. Then again, while Telly definitely isn't cheap (though I suspect he might get less than the last time), the other imports aren't that expensive either (especially Carle). I just think that they have changed the direction a little bit. Since it's not the Czechs and Slovaks anymore, and the Scandinavians didn't work out that well, they are trying to see how the north american rout will pan out.

Arena for KHL Rookies Slovan Passes Inspection
    12:33 05/06/2012
    MOSCOW, June 5 (RIA Novosti)

KHL newcomer Slovan Bratislava has been cleared to hold home games at the Slovnaft Arena in the city after the venue passed an inspection by the hockey league’s authorities, the team said on its website Tuesday.

In May, KHL president Alexander Medvedev announced that Slovan would join for the 2012-13 season along with Ukrainians Donbass Donetsk and Czech team Lev Prague.

"Slovnaft Arena is a great stadium and there are only few defects left to be fixed," the KHL's director on supervision and procedural issues Vadim Skoropupov was quoted as saying.

Slovan’s general manager Maros Krajci highlighted the difference between requirements posed in the Slovak Extraliga and the KHL, which included increasing the height of the protective glass around the ice and hanging flags for all seven nations of participating teams.

"We are now fixing all the shortcomings," Krajci said.

Slovan is an eight-time Slovak champion, with its last triumph coming in 2008.

Representing Czechoslovakia, the team won three Spengler Cups in a row between 1972 and 1974. 10,059-capacity Slovnaft Arena, also known as Orange Arena, was built in 1940 and reconstructed in 2009 to host matches of the 2011 IIHF World Championship.

In early May it was announced that it had hired Rostislav Cada as a new head coach, who brings with him KHL experience from working at this year's Gagarin Cup finalist Avangard Omsk.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I wonder how they made such a mistake. :/

edit: As was said, Christensen joined Lev.

I ran into an article about it, and it says that quite a few former NHL players are in Lev. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...-signs-in-khl/

Dunno if this was mentioned already...
Lokomotiv will get two guys... Sami Lepisto, and Curtis Sanford http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...eading-to-khl/

After having seen the teams that will play in this Donbass Cup it seems like a really nice first test of the potential of Donbass and Slovan.

I'm really liking the import players so far this year, Sanford to Lokomotiv has been an exciting topic in my city (Owen Sound, Ontario his hometown, played on the city team, etc, etc) good to see that! :D even though not a single soul knows much even pronouncing the name is hard for them haha

So I'm guessing he'll be the starting goalie then yes?

    Sanford as starter in Lokomotiv

If new rules had been adopted, he will be "half-starter" to use this unusual term. New rules about goalies (ONLY FOR RUSSIAN BASED TEAMS) say that "foreigner-goalie" can play 2/3 of regular season games. He can play whole play-offs, no limit. One more time, I dont know if league approved this rule, clubs were against it. We have to wait untill summer when new rules will be published at website (hoping)

Paul Maurice and Tom Barrasso signed with Magnitogorsk. Maurice as head coach, Barrasso as goalie coach. Both worked for Canes this season. Contract with Magnitogorsk is for one year.

They have real ugly jerseys. And I hope they don't switch back to Soviet-style logo, the new one was really good. Fair enough reason to dislike a team, imo. :D

Hm, yeah, an ugly logo makes me dislike a team.
But you say they have ugly jersies and then you say that their new one is good/not ugly. If they have a nice logo now (I'd say they do) then why not like them? :)

    I really dislike this one : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HC...%28logo%29.png
And some more, http://www.cska-hockey.ru/contents/n...1337350530.jpg ... though is it possible that all those were on hockey jersies?

The city or the canadiens/habs team? I don't care so much about the habs... I used to like the leafs so there is some rivalry... heh, but after some years I lost my fondness for the leafs. So I in general do not want the habs anything bad, may they reach the playoffs and whatnot... and speaking of them, I read recently that Kovalev is interested in going back there.

In other stuff, I am disappointed in the KHL.
    They issued this message...

Да-да, нам есть на что посмотреть!

You don't join up with playboy. You just don't. Many people find that to be indecent. Now yeah many cheer that, but still, why do that when it might alienate some fans?? The church itself frowns on this, so why......
...next we'll see stripping on ice I guess. :(
