Its amazing what fans of rival clubs are willing to do in order to save another from from going under, EHC Olten used the month of December to organize fan events and would give the money raised to HC Sierre. Today, in the meeting between the two clubs, Olten fans loaded up nine (9) bus loads and took the 235km drive down to Sierre and handed Sierre a cheque for 7500CHF. HC Sierre will be in courts 7.January to find out fate of club.

HC Sierre has been given 8 more days to add additional information to their file. At the hearing today, the club President Silvio Caldelari once again appealed to the former leaders to take responsibility for the debt.

Hopefully this dosnt drag on, the club only has one match between now and the new court date.

After the beating EHC Basel took at the hands of La Chaux-de-Fonds over the weekend, the club has released head coach Dany Gelinas from his duties even though his contract runs through 2014.

Taking over for Gelinas will be Daniel Baur, assisting him is Oliver Sutter who is working with Young Sharks and player Jamie Wright.

Dino Stecher will be taking over the coaching duties next season

With just 10 matches to go in regular Championship for everybody, Olten and Ajoie are the first clubs to punch their tickets. On Sunday, a victory for Lausanne and Langenthal will mean they are the next into the play-offs. Going the other direction, a situation we have known for some time but Sierre and Thurgau season is over.

Olten seems to be one of the favourites this year to win and fight for NLA spot however over the past couple years we have learned, the favourites almost always fall.

Remember, new to the season is no more top 4 picking opponents, traditional 1-8, 2-7, etc.

Even with the loss today, Langenthal helps out Lausanne and gives both clubs a play-off spot. Looking at the final spots, GCK moves one point closer to making the play-offs while Basel who seemed to be making a charge is starting to hit the wall and fall 3pts back of RED ICE for the final spot.

HC Sierre has submitted their papers to the judge and now it becomes a waiting game, the court will rule by the end of the month. Should anything extreme happen, Sierre will have pretty much completed the Championship as February only holds 4 matches.

STARKOVS is SIROKOVS an important player for LATVIA? He just decided to refuse NT SELECTION to help RED ICE in PO fight. Or is he just a spare wheel?

He usually makes the roster but he isnt really that important, nothing we couldnt find from somebody else who is going to work their ass off on the bottom 6. Nice of him though to be so devoted to RED ICE.

HC Sierre has been given the help of former leaders who turn over their reports from the years 2009-2011 which should help the club lower their debts. All the paperwork has been handed over to the Judge, verdict is still expected at the end of the month.

Huge win for RED ICE, they knock off Lausanne to push them back into the play-offs and force Basel out, however, they are only two points up on Basel while Basel has two matches in hand. Visp and Olten can give RED ICE a big helping hand by winning their matches on Friday to take away points while taking away one of the matches in hand for GCK and Basel.

This race for the final spots is getting really good.

EHC Visp is next to punch their ticket to the play-offs with their victory over La Chaux-de-Fonds while RED ICE gets their much needed help from opposing clubs who take away Basel two matches in hand while giving up no points to the Sharks.

La Chaux-de-Fonds should have zero troubles becoming the 6th club to clinch the play-offs as they take on Sierre on Tuesday. Though GCK has built a 5pt advantage, they will have their hands full with Langenthal who battle it out at the top with Ajoie and Olten for 1st place. RED ICE needs a strong performance on Tueaday when they host Visp because Basel gets to host Thurgau, neither club has a real favouriable schedule down the stretch. Should if come to it though, RED ICE has Sierre on the final day while Basel has to deal with Olten.

The league has basically broken into pieces now, Ajoie, Langenthal and Olten battle for 1st, Lausanne holds 4th down pretty well, Visp and La Chaux-de-Fonds 5-6th, GCK has built themselves a decent lead for 7th, RED ICE and Basel for 8th, while Thurgau and Sierre just hang around way down at the bottom.

According to report in Le Nouvelliste it comes to zero surprise that one of the front runners to become the head coach for next season is Ukrainian Valeri Shiryayev (Chiriaev) who is currently the head coach of CP Fleurier in 2.Liga. It would also come to no surprise to me if the remaining candidates are all Eastern Europeans, RED ICE loves to keep things in that area.

Valeri son, Evgenï will be moving from Basel to RED ICE for next season when he signed a two year deal back in January.

It would also come to no surprise to me if the remaining candidates are all Eastern Europeans, RED ICE loves to keep things in that area.

Valeri son, Evgenï will be moving from Basel to RED ICE for next season when he signed a two year deal back in January.

you are right just look at the owners, club name, transfers and the connections. I like the eastern
presence among majority of Canadians and Fins, Swedes or Swiss in the leagues history. I always
have that feeling they are going to mean something in the future of Swiss hockey. Since
BYKOV-CHOMUTOV with FRIBOURG in the 90's no real eastern influence on Swiss hockey.
the project HC VALAIS could be revived now that SIERRE is in desperate situation, HC VALAIS is
the aim of RED ICE as last year's events tell us. The day they will have bigger presence in the
canton you can count with them for a NLA spot imo.

Their ULMER and MCMURCHY players must be difficult to replace because they doing well with
    EHCBiel.

Wasnt it RED ICE who pulled the offer off the table? If it was, I dont see them wanting to join Sierre unless the club goes under but I dont believe they will, Caldelari will most likely just turn Sierre into an overaged junior club who feeds Visp and RED ICE. Agreed, I give RED ICE 3-5 years before they start really going for titles, first few years just to adjust and they are already fighting for play-offs with small budget so good signs from them.

RED ICE really needs to string together some wins because they can do it, another big win for them over La CdF tonight, it may only be 2pts but they are huge 2pts, shoot-out victory gives them back the play-off position from Basel.

Now, Basel heads into Lausanne tomorrow night without Chiriaev who has been sent to Lausanne. Its starting to look more and more likely the final day is going to come into play where RED ICE gets to play Sierre.
