Attendences generally seem to be lower in the play offs than for the regular season. Is that correct? Were regular season attendences higher because of the NHL Lockout players playing in the league? Or is it more to do with ticket pricing etc?

Oklahoma City closes out their series on Texas and becomes the first club to advance to the Conference finals. They could get a nice break since the Grand Rapids-Toronto series is just going into game 4 tomorrow night. That series could end on Saturday but if not, the clubs dont play again until Tuesday.

In the East, both Syracuse and Providence can book their tickets to the Conference Finals tomorrow with victories.

Syracuse sweeps the series against Springfield becoming the first Eastern Conference club into the Finals. Just like out West, they are waiting to find out who they will play, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was able to hold on for atleast another day with their win against Providence. They will have to do the same again tomorrow night on home ice.

Grand Rapids pushes one more step closer to join Oklahoma City in the Western Conference Finals, they extend their lead to 3-1. They as well will have a chance tomorrow night at home to close out Toronto.

Both Toronto and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton are able to extend their series. For Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, they must go back to Providence and win both matches in order to advance to the Conference Finals, as for Toronto, they get to go home but still need two wins.

So we might have found reason why play-offs have drop in attendance, one reason can always be that more matches are played during the week instead of the weekend and because with the changing schedule, it makes it harder to sell group tickets.

Thanks for posting this, Starkovs. I'm sure this must be a major reason why there is a drop. Interesting articles too. Always entertaining to read about a team owner criticising their own fans. A bold move.

I wondered if another reason might if fans prefer to watch the NHL play offs on TV instead? I was thinking this particularly about Providence Bruins. Their regular season attendence was over 8000 but they've been getting between 3000-4000 for recent play off games. I thought that perhaps watching the Boston-Toronto/NY Rangers play off games might be more attractive to some fans?

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has come back all the way from down 3 matches to tie the series. See if they are able to complete the comeback on Wednesday, again in Providence.

Now its up to Toronto to win on home ice tomorrow to see if they can force a 7th.
