    IIHF Inline Championship 2013

    Venue: Dresden, Germany
    Date: 2-8 June 2013

    Top Division
    Group A: Canada (1), Slovenia (4), USA (5), Slovakia (8).
    Group B: Germany (2), Finland (3), Czech Republic (6), Sweden (7).

    Division I
    Group C: Great Britain (9), Croatia (12), Australia (13), Bulgaria (16).
    Group D: Hungary (10), Austria (11), Japan (14) + Qualifier (15).

The remaining qualifier is likely to involve some of these teams:
New Zealand, South Africa, Namibia, Argentina, Taiwan

It will be held in December, but I've not been able to find out anything more about the participants.

I've recently created an Inline Hockey world ranking to go with all the other sports rankings I maintain, using all World Championship results from 2000-2012, and also including results from qualifying where available (around 630 results in total).

I'd have to think that New Zealand or South Africa would take that qualifier spot. I'm not too confident with Taiwan, and I don't think Namibia could stack up.

It's also interesting to note that Konstantin Mihaylov is playing for Bulgaria here, he of the ageless wonder for Bulgaria's national ice hockey team. He also got pulled today against Great Britain, going 25/35.

Sweden goes for gold while Canada will try for bronze following
    Sweden's 10-5 semi final win.
The game was a lot closer than the final score suggests as
the Swedes pumped in three goals in the last minute of the game.
In fact Canada led 5-4 heading into the fourth period, having erased
a 4-2 deficit by scoring three goals in less than three minutes in the
third period and seemed to have momentum on their side.
But the Swedes quickly tied the game at five 36 seconds into the
final period and added two more to lead 7-5 with around
    five minutes remaining.

Yeah, I thought that Canada was going to run away with it for a while there. Also, Sweden got an empty netter for their 8th goal, and that really put things away; after that, Canada just formally gave up.

Germany defeated Finland 7-5 to stay up, while Finland will be playing Slovenia in a relegation game. With that being said, Saturday's games shape up to be that, plus the US vs. Sweden in the gold medal game and Canada vs. Slovakia for bronze.

Finland defeated Slovenia 8-3, relegating the latter; it will be the first time since 2003 that Slovenia won't be in the top division. Taking their place is Great Britain, who defeated Austria 5-1 to win gold and the promotion. In the Division 1 bronze medal game, Hungary defeated Australia 7-5.

In qualifying for 2014, Latvia beat FYR Macedonia 35-1 and Ireland just defeated FYR Macedonia 14-0. Obviously, everything comes down to tomorrow's game between Latvia and Ireland.
