Even though the EPL is supposedly financially cheaper for teams to operate in, because of the import rules compared to the ELITE league, It's worth nothing there is still a gap within team budgets.

Manchester and Basingstoke are former ELITE league teams. Manchester is probably the highest spending team, and their import quality shows that. Guildford are one of the powerhouses of this league. Milton Keynes and probably Slough/Peterborogh are good contenders too.

It's worth nothing too that Milton Keynes have a 'free ticket' if you will to enter the ELITE league but choose not too.

Sheffield Steeldogs are new, run by former AHL Calder Cup winner Andre Payette. He seems to love his job in Sheffield and is turning them into a good competetive team too. Considering the budget he must be working with.

This league is classed as a 'development league'. There is a good number of younger players but in recent years, with the addition of the 2 ELITE league teams it seems to be turning into some kind of ELITE league rival.

This has an important implication for imports. Because it is a development league, the UK Government do not give work permits for it. As a result, to play in this league, you must have an EU passport.

Also, the definition of import is someone who is not British-trained rather than someone who is British by birth, heritage or residency. From an import perspective, your passport is irrelevant. To be British, you must have played 2 years in an u18 league in this country. As a result, there are players in the league who do not count as imports who do not have British passports.

    Graham.

Gareth, this is the second level correct? Do you happen to get out to any of these matches to see Bebris? I know Sheffield is about an hour away but wondering how he is doing.

Yeah its the 2nd level. I haven't been to Sheffield for a while now, I always plan to as it's more a hockey city then Manchester! And for the price of the EPL level Manchester team I can go watch Elite league Sheffield! (Sounds harsh on my home team I know but it really isn't worth the money to watch EPL :S)

    Bebris stats are 35gm 12gl 13ast 25pt

Janis Ozolins is rumoured to have left Hull in the Elite and gone back to Sheffield EPL too http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=28760

They also had Kriss Grundmanis a few seasons back http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=16853

Thanks my friend, if Ozoliņš goes back to Sheffield it should be interesting to see how he does with Bebris. If you do go back sometime soon to catch a match, make sure to tell me your thoughts on Bebris, he seems to be doing pretty good stat wise.

I haven't seen too many of these highlights....will start watching them.

How would these teams do against the EIHL teams on average if they were to play today?

(I did update this thread but with the recent downtime it seems to have deleted my posts!) Well if you take Manchester, Guildford, Milton Keynes and maybe Bracknell.. They'd compete with the lower end EIHL teams say the Dundees/Edinburgh. Maybe not outright win but they'd not be embrassed by any means. Not to be biased but if you look at the experience of the imports that Manchester get even in the EPL now it's usually better then the likes of Edinburgh and co. Just the EIHL have more 'average' imports 11 compared to Manchesters 3...

Sheffield are still new so wouldn't be too fair to rate them but Payette is doing a good job building them up again from the old Scimitars that folded. Telford, while never being a powerhouse are really struggling atm.

Milton Keynes and Guildford(I believe) have a 'free pass' if you will to join the Elite league but obviously the costs would rise and they'd probably not be as successfull instantly and risk losing their fan base. Especially Guildford who are well supported.

Manchester Phoenix announced their season tickets at £351.. "helping the fans by not increasing the price" Yet the Sheffield Steelers season ticket is only £340!

Nice work my friend and congrats to Ziediņš for a very nice career, wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do after ice hockey. Hopefully Peterborough makes play-offs and wins, go out on top.

    How is Bebris doing?

Easy to read now! Still a few more to add I'll get them on later!

Bebris is having a good time with the Steeldogs and Payette it seems 48 gms 20 gls 21 asts. He's currently 3rd on Steeldogs all time points, 2nd on goals and 3rd games played. Janis Ozolins is leading most of them for Steeldogs.

Speaking of Janis heres a little interview of him signing for Dundee in the Elite league http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNex-...ature=youtu.be

Well done Phoenix:) from a Flames fan:)

I have not posted on this forum for absolute ages, but this past weekends EPL Playoff finals were the first game for me in the season. I know did not make any games this season, crazy:(. Good to see that the EPL thread is going stong. As always proud of Flames achievement this year, by doing another first of back to back double both in League champions and Cup winners. Another treble was not meant to be:/ but it is not all about Flames after all:)) just wanted to also add on here, a BIG massive congrats to the lovely Manchester Phoenix and their super friendly fans...Always love chatting to Manchester fans at games and Coventry, seriously not all of us Flames fans are librarians:))) For those of you that do not follow EPL, Manchester and Guildford have a good North vs South friendly banter. Always love the games between the two teams and the friendly chanting and banter. An excellent team and definately the team that played the better hockey last night and deserved the Playoffs, great to see you get your Playoff title as well. At the end of the game before the cup presentation Manchester fans chanted "Guildford, Guildford" and acknowledged the team and the Flames fans, pure class..
Don't get too comfortable though, here is too future Flames vs Manchester playoff matches:P
Guildford Flames until the end! :)

If any highlights are put up I'll link them but you have to buy the EPL Playoff DVD so I don't think they will... Now back to the Elite league? :D
