An update on St. Charles, Nicole Kupaks is no longer working for the team but according to her the team will drop the puck this fall. https://twitter.com/NHLTIM/status/334459774664069121

And according to the story from the Peoria Journal-Star about the Riverman and Bloomington joining the SPHL, they have a source claiming that the SPHL is considering more midwest teams for the future and "on the short list in the midwest will be Quad Cities and St. Charles, Mo., according to sources last week."

Sad to see that last year's rumors about the imminent collapse of the Central Hockey League appear to be true.

The ECHL, with its current growth, really needs to re-brand. The league has claimed for several years now that "ECHL" doesn't stand for anything anymore, and that it no longer stands for "East Coast Hockey League," but the media and hockey observers ALL call it the "East Coast League." Well, having a jumble of letters that means nothing is dumb, especially when the public and the media still refer to it as the "East Coast League."

As for the AHL, one of the changes is that the NY Rangers have switched their farm team name back to the 'Hartford Wolf Pack.' The fans in Hartford don't seem to like the move. Here is an article showing why the move is a short-sighted one by the NHL club......

I agree, Marc. I used to be one of those vocal "Hey! It's not the East Coast Hockey League" guys but even I call it "the Coast." Revisit the idea of a sponsorship deal with Nationwide Insurance and boom. Some will hate it because of the corporatization but the name will fit.

Another league that may need to consider a name change soon is the SPHL. Bruce Saurs has said the league is looking to grow into two 10-team divisions.

"They've got some unique ideas," said Saurs, who owned the Peoria Rivermen from 1989-2008. "They'll have two divisions to satrt with, approximately ten teams each. And they'll play in the division, which will save hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel expense."
The official word from the league is still their traditional cap number they've thrown out of 12 teams.

The CHL took both Rapid City and Allen to court and it seems they have won.

The AHL Board of Governors has approved of the Utica Comets to begin play in the 2013/2014 season. The club moves from Peoria, IL to Utica, belonging to the Vancouver Canucks

Until the Canucks can convince Abbotsford to dump the Heat and they'll move the Comets/whatever-you-want-to-call-them there.

The CHL officially announced that Bloomington and Fort Worth are gone. In an attempt to save face they're treating both Bloomington and Fort Worth as inactive franchises. The rights to the Brahmas franchise has supposedly reverted back to Texas Brahmas LP and the Brahmas' old owner Stuart Fraser, but debts from 12-13 are still the responsibility of Fort Worth Brahmas LLC.

Fraser will likely attempt to sell off the franchise again but whoever buys it would be better off adopting a new name. The Brahmas name has been tarnished way too much this past year.
