KHL Kontinental Hockey League 2013/2014 (transfers, news, discussions)

With the season over and Dynamo Moscow Champions again, its time to move onto a new season. Some changes for this year, the league adds a unnamed club from Vladivostok and Croatian side KHL Medveščak Zagreb and perhaps in the leagues Conference structures.

We will carry some of 'vorky' last posts from the last season thread....

    EXPANSION DRAFT for Vladivostok

Vladivostok can draft from russian clubs only (except Lokomotiv) and 1 player per team, he can be Russian, Foreigner. Vladivostok will have foreigners limit for new season higher, 7 guys.

Russian clubs, without Loko, will delegate 5 guys with valid contract who will participate at this draft. Vladivostok has right to choose one of them (per team). These guys must fullfill:

    - be born 1992 or elder and be on club´s roster for KHL (not VHLers with two way deal)
    - can accept QO (but not signed yet oficially with his club)..
    - does not have NO-TRADE clause (at least I hope it is about NO-TRADE not NO-MOVE :D)
    - does not have status "drafted", "reserve rights", "conflict"

"drafted" status is if a player is drafted of course. "reserve rights" status have all russian who left KHL in summer 2008 I hope (details in rules), "conflict" status is if a player with valid contract left the club/KHL to sign with other league (details in rules).

Cervenka will get 5,1 mil. USD per season in SKA, it is 15,3 mil USD for 3y-deal. How much money is it in NHL (you know, taxes)?

Are you sure about it? Wasn't the 5.1 millions for all 3 seasons?

Other source says it is for 1 season, so 15,3 millions for all 3 seasons. Who knows?

Is the division alignment for next season already known? On Wikipepia someone moved Torpedo to the East, but I cannot find any source for that.

No, calendar, divisions will be known soon (I think next week.. we will see), but it is already known (multiple statements of KHL vicepresident in media) that Torpedo will be moved to East. Two conference of 14 clubs, Medvescak in West, Torpedo/Admiral Vladivostok in East.

btw, twitter of Vladivostok, seems official one https://twitter.com/HCAdmiral

Who knows. Problem is that Vladivostok did not guarantee the budget for new season as sole club. On the other hand, the project has support from politics, so I see no problem. Only club is a mess now... lets wait.

Info from NA media per reports, nothing signed

    - Malkin to get 15 mil. USD per season in KHL
    - Bobrovsky to get 10 mil. USD per season in KHL
    - Gonchar to get 7 mil. USD per season in KHL

Gazprom oil markedly reduces the budget of Avangard Omsk. Compared to last season the club will not receive nearly one-third of funds from its principal sponsor.
For the whole season 2013/14 Avangard and its youth team Omsk Hawks will receive 684.4 million rubles from the general sponsor, a cut of about 30%

Is every club getting a cut in funding? I am wondering - perhaps they're just diverting those funds to other clubs, or certain other clubs?

Calendar is out, we start on 4.September with once again the Lokomotiv Cup between the two finalists from last season, Dynamo Moscow v. Traktor Chelyabinsk. New comers Admiral Vladivostok start their season on Friday the 6th when they travel to take on Amur, Medveščak starts the same day but on home ice against CSKA.
Admiral will play their first home match on 27.September when CSKA comes to town.

Full calendar here (English for convenience) http://en.khl.ru/documents/KHL_calen...regular_en.pdf

Only real change is Torpedo will move out East.

Speaking of Admiral, their picks from expansion draft

Does anyone have any opinions of the new Medvescak team? They have signed a number of players already.

Their level might be low but they might bring with them some fight, considering its a new team and they majority will be 'Cronucks' we could see a surprise who knows!

That Katic and Popovic guy are such examples which gives some reason to expect something out of them. I wonder who else will they sign.

    To the Croatian members....

How would you like me to classify KHL Medveščak Championships? Does the club count all Championships from Croatian league or are they more so separate clubs under the same name?

There were never separate clubs under the name of Medveščak. Medveščak won 3 championships in former Yugoslavia and 17 in Croatia: 20 overall.

    Excellent work Starkovs.

One small suggestion: Should for example some of CSKA's championships not be labled as Soviet championships instead of Russian Championships?

Thank you very much and thanks for the suggestion, I will break them up based on league. CSKA now has only Soviet Championships, Dynamo is given Soviet, the re-formed CIS/IHL, Russian for Super League and of course KHL, Spartak as well has Soviet Champions.

Originally it was reported that Medvescak would enter some kind of farmteam agreement with HD Jesenice but that didn't happen as Jesenice was not able to retrun playing in EBEL. The next thing I heard that such a cooperation was talked about with Olimpija Ljubljana. An agreement with an VHL team would probably not make a lot of sense alone for the distances involved...

Thanks Rex - the reason I am asking is because danish player Patrick Bjřrkstrand has just signed with Zagreb. Just wondering which level he will play at if he does not make the KHL team every game.

Isn't there a rule about having at least 2 youth players in the game day roster? If so what does that more specifically say?

Roster for game consists of 20 player, 2 of them are guys born 1992 (or younger). So, 18 players (G, D, F) + two 1992ers. If a club wants to skate 21 or 22 players in a game, the 21th and 22th player must be a guy born 1993 (or younger).

Bjřrkstrand is a player born 1992, so he is a "limit young player", Medvescak needs one more such player.. I would recommend to have more of them (some can play for Red Bull Salzburg in MHL).

As I know, Medvescak is in talks with a few EBEL clubs to cooperate with them in new season. It wont be farm-team in KHL or NHL terms, but close cooperation (loans)

Is Trstenjak returning? Also goalie Tomljenovic, or if they can transfer Rendulic in, that would give them other options for 1992 born players..?

If I understand the Q, PayPal does not accept russian banks or something like that, that is the problem. It is all about russian and "west" banking system. No reason for russians to cooperate with "west"/ euro banks.
