    Kristiāns Pels passes away

On 11.June at 02h people called police for a suspect jumping off a bridge in Rīga, when police arrived they only found a man clothing but nobody in the river. The search for the body continues, Pels has just returned to Latvia and is unable to be reached, his family confirm the belongings on the bridge are his but wont confirm he has died.

There has been some things changed, at first, news articles write that pants and phone was found on the bridge, now its just changed to clothing and his relatives confirming it belongs to Pelšs has also been removed.

Pelšs is though still missing, he is unable to be reached by phone, either he turned it off since returning home or he is in a area without service

    What awful, awful news.
A terribly tragic story if reports are confirmed but also terribly perplexing.
This young man seemed to have everything to live for,
his whole life in front of him....why?

Are there any updates today, Starkovs? The last report was that a body had been recovered and the family had been asked to identify it but that was several hours ago.

Thanks. Please let us know if you hear anything. It's a very distressing story.

According to the police facebook page the identity of the drowned body has been identified as Kristiāns Pels. RIP to him and the Norwegian kid. A sad week for the whole hockey community.

Will really miss Pelšs, such a great young man who looked to have a very bright future. Deepest condolences go out to his family.

And of course, to Winkler as well, way too young to lose such great talents.

Very, very sad! He was extremely well liked in Edmonton when he played for the Oil Kings. He spent the last year on the Oilers' minor pro teams in Stockton and Oklahoma City. As Starkovs said, nothing but a bright future ahead of him. It's so hard to comprehend!
