Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen anything from Hockey Canada on who's replacing Stevie Y as the head honcho. They haven't asked me anyway and this being an Olympic year it will be harder than usual to recruit guys. Still a few unknowns in the playoff picture but I'd like to see the 4 studs from Edmonton (Hall, Eberle, RNH, Schultz) and Seguin (Stars), Skinner (Carolina) and Johanson (CBJ) on the team. At least that should provide some offense.
The Russians will likely want to salvage something this year - everybody else is probably a bit less focused than usual.

Forgot Perron (Oilers). Reasonable scoring possibilities if (fill in blank) can recruit that group.

Well announced today - it's Rob Blake, asst GM of LA. Don't know much about him although he was one of the big relatively slow, physical D-men that got pointed at as one possibility (of many) for the horrible showing in Torino. Decent NHL player in his day.
As I mentioned, Olympic year will be hard to recruit talent.

Are we using this thread for pre-tournament discussion?

Slovakia's roster for next week's camp and two games against Russia:

Július Hudáček (HC ČSOB Pardubice/ČR) 1988
    Jaroslav Janus (Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1989
Ján Laco (Donbass Doneck, Ukr./KHL) 1981

    Ján Brejčák (Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1989
    Peter Čerešňák (Dukla Trenčín) 1993
Marek Ďaloga (HC ČSOB Pardubice/CR) 1989
    Vladimír Mihálik Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1987
    Karol Sloboda 1983
Richard Stehlík (both HC Vítkovice/ČR) 1984
    Martin Štajnoch (Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1990
Ivan Švarný (Medveščak Záhreb, Chor./KHL) 1984
    Juraj Valach (Slavia Praha/ČR) 1989

    Martin Bakoš (Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1990
    Martin Bartek 1980
Tomáš Bulík (both Bílí Tygři Liberec/ČR) 1985
Marcel Haščák (Dinamo Riga, Lot./KHL) 1987
    Adam Lapšanský (HK Poprad) 1990
Mário Lunter (HC´05 Banská Bystrica) 1994
Patrik Lušňák (ŠHK 37 Piešťany) 1988
    Michel Miklík 1982
Juraj Mikúš (both Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1987
    Ladislav Nagy (Jokerit Helsinki/Fín.) 1979
    David Skokan (Slavia Praha/ČR) 1988
    Miroslav Šatan (Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1974
Rastislav Špirko (Spartak Moskva, Rus./KHL) 1984
    Andrej Šťastný (Slovan Bratislava/KHL) 1991
Radoslav Tybor (HC ČSOB Pardubice/ČR) 1989
    Peter Zuzin (HKM Zvolen) 1990

According to the latest info Slovakia will once again have to do with Dominik Graňák due to injury :(

Injuries are also troubling some other players, acc. to GM Sýkora they were planning on taking the whole line of Ján Sýkora- Tomáš Marcinko-Radoslav Tybor which was the best line at tourney in December to the WC. However Ján Sýkora from Plzeň is recoverig from pneumotorax and his status is unknown, Marcinko has been recovering from his injury since the Olympics /he has played in Košice's last game so who knows/ and even Tybor who is on the roster has some healh troubles and was temporarily replaced on the roster by Mário Lunter from Banská Bystrica who will stay with the team until Tybor's recovery.

It seems from NHLers Slovakia can only count with the arrival of D-men Sekera and Marinčin, though Sekera has missed Carolina's last game due to a lower body injury. It seems Detroit will make the POs, in case they're out after round 1 Tomas Tata has also mentioned that he would join the team for the WC. Not sure about the other Tomas, wheher he'd have to join the Graffins in the AHL. Halak could also be in the play however the goaltending position is one that really doesn't seem to be a problem right now tbh.

The team also sees the return of F Ladislav Nagy who was previously blacklisted from the NT after declining the NT invite several times as well as Miroslav Satan who is joining the team after the whole Olympics drama surrounding him.

Andrej Sekera out for Slovakia due to injury. It's starting to look possible that Slovakia won't have any NHLers on the roster starting the tournament (if the OKC Barons make the AHL play-offs and Martin Marinčin has to go there and if none of the other Slovaks are out after 1st round of Olympics).

Yes Draisaitl is kind of a player we all hope to see in NHL and to be succesful there i mean that he not sits on bench only.
We need some young players making it to NHL, since the older one´s like Marco Sturm have retired.

Maybe Christian Erhoff will join the german roster in the next few weeks. At least he said already, that he looks forwared to join.

EDIT: German team has beaten france 2-0 in the second game today.

    Added in german team:
    Nikolai Goc (Defense) (Adler Mannheim)
    Sinan Akdag (Defense) (Adler Mannheim)
    Daniel Pietta (Forward) (Krefeld Pinguins)

Looks like an Adler Mannheim team at the moment, the roster.

Forward Adam Lapšanký leaves the Slovak team due to a knee injury he suffered in Sunday's game against Russia (as if we didn't have enough injured players already). Forward Martin Reway will be joinng the team for games against France this week, Martin Marinčin of the Edmonton Oilers will join the team at the end of the week.

David Wolf (Hamburg Freezers) will not be able to participate at this years IHWC in Minsk. He is banned for 5 games in german league (DEL) and that means he is also banned for international games.
Sad news, Wolf is an very important player for german team and will be missed.

Konrad Abeltshauser (Halifax Mosseheads) (AHL) is also missing in the german roster because he is injured (knee injury).

Yeah, I'm not sold on the forwards. And regarding Gaudreau, this was a preliminary roster, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was added later.

Unofficial Team Canada roster from TSN:

    http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/feature/?id=63060

Not a lot of star power, more like a working class team. I think Reimer is OK, I don't blame him for the Leafs latest collapse.

Cabal, Adam Lapšanský is no longer with team Slovakia as he suffered a season ending knee injury against Russia last weekend. Martin Reway is with the team in France. Martin Marinčin is expected to join the team at the end of this week too.

My liveticker here said he (Adam Lapšanský) is at the team in france. So blame the website for that. ;)

    Latest Team Canada roster:
    Goalkeepers:

    Jason Garrison, Vancouver Canucks (NHL)
    Erik Gudbranson, Florida Panthers (NHL)
    Marc Methot, Ottawa Senators (NHL)
    Tyler Myers, Buffalo Sabres (NHL)
Morgan Rielly, Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL)

    Forwards:
    Troy Brouwer, Washington Capitals (NHL)
    Alexandre Burrows, Vancouver Canucks (NHL)
    Jason Chimera, Washington Capitals (NHL)
    Cody Hodgson, Buffalo Sabres (NHL)
    Jonathan Huberdeau, Florida Panthers (NHL)
Nazem Kadri, Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL)
    Sean Monahan, Calgary Flames (NHL)
    David Perron, Edmonton Oilers (NHL)
    Mark Scheifele, Winnipeg Jets (NHL)
    Kyle Turris, Ottawa Senators (NHL)
    Joel Ward, Washington Capitals (NHL)

Interesting mix, several young skilled guys who as rookies/prospects maybe had their development rushed or mis-managed. Also some solid older 3rd line guys. Not flashy but get the job done. Might be OK.

Decent NHL player in his day?
Well, I guess so...he won the Norris in 1998.
He was a several time all star and played on a gold medal winning Olympic team
in 2002 and two WC winning teams in 94 and 97 plus a SC with Colorado.
He was big and rangy but not that slow....he was no Brad Marsh let's put it that way.
The horrible showing Canada had in Italy was due to the fact Canada couldn't score...
Canada was shut out 2-0 THREE times in that tournament including a loss to the Swiss.
Don't blame a D-man for Canada's lack of scoring then...Sid The Kid was left off that team.

Rob Blake was hardly slow and had a cannon of a shot. He was big and strong and hit people hard. He was an NHL all-star several times over and won at every level, like Heatleysucks pointed out.

Was it the liveticker for the game against France? There were a few mistakes in that one AFAIK.

Andy Miele, Colin McDonald, and Conor Murphy were added to the US roster today. Honestly, I'm pretty underwhelmed with this year's American entry.

As I mentioned in my post -- there were numerous theories why TC stunk in Torino. There was a circus around Bertuzzi, and Gretzky's wife's alleged gambling scandal, the usual big ice question, but one possible explanation for the lack of offense was Scott Niedermeyer was on the DL and they didn't have good puck moving D-men. That was "one possibility (of many)".

Yeah not very reliable. Hudáček played all game for Slovakia, while Laco and Réway didn't play at all.

Tampa Bay is out of the NHL playoffs so that creates some possible interesting roster additions:

    Ondrej Palat CZK
    Tyler Johnson USA
    Victor Hedman SWE
    Valtteri Filippula FIN

Stamkos is a possibility for Canada but I think unlikely.
