Belgium Belgian results from 1912 to 1987

I am searching for the results and standings of the Belgian League/Championship from 1912-1987. I have access to all final tables from the 1987-88 season onwards, but have been unable to find much, aside from a few select seasons (1911-12, 1921-22, 1922-23, 1925-26, 1961-62, 1975-76, and 1985-86) prior to that point.

I've found all champions and an informative history of the championship, along with the clubs that participated in it, on the Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation website, it's just the final tables that have eluded me.

In addition, I am missing the results from the 1986 Belgian Cup and all second-level seasons prior to 1987-88. Any help with those would be appreciated as well.

Hopefully someone will be able to help piece back together the seemingly lost results of the Belgian League for many years. Thanks.

Well, I can offer you the following

    BEL Cup 1986, final games:
HIJC Herentals Olympia Heist o/d Berg 9:0 Final
Olympia Heist o/d Berg HIJC Herentals 6:5 Final

    no more infos available.

Interesting for you could be the following two books:

    90 Jaar Ijshockey in Belgie
    Knapp Olympia

Both books are from Jan Casteels and are written in flaemic (?) language. I've no idea, if the books are still available... books are from midd if the 90ies and I do only have the postal address from Mr. Casteels:

    Jan Casteels
    Anjerstraat 18
    2222 Itegem, Belgium
    (phone 015/24 60 17)
    Cheers, Franco

Thanks for the results from the 1986 Belgian Cup final. I greatly appreciate the info.

Guess I'm not the only one who's had trouble finding older stuff from Belgium. I wonder why their results are far less widely available than most of their European counterparts?

Anyway, thanks for informing me of the books. I will research both further and see if there's anything useful to be had from them.

For the beginning look at the following site :

    http://home.kpn.nl/H.P.Eeuwes/b/bel.htm

A problem for you would be : It is all in the dutch language.
But a lot of interesting things......

Example from the site mentioned above

    BELGIAN CUP (=BELGIAN CHAMPIONSHIP) 1975-1976

    9.ICE CHOPPERS GULLEGEM 16 1 0 15 2 26-235

Is that what you are looking for?

    P.S.
Translation of "* = Amerikaanse legerploeg opererend vanuit La Louviére" would be

    * = American Armyteam operated from La Louviére
I am looking for standings/results such as the example listed above for the Belgian Championship in most seasons from 1912-1987, from either "90 Jaar Ijshockey in Belgie" or "Knapp Olympia." I have searched extensively for them with no luck. Do either of these books have info on the standings?

Sorry, there are no standings like the above example that I posted here from that website of Hans Eeuwes.
There is only a list like this in the book(s) :

    Championship of Belgium:

1959-1960,Cercle des Patineurs Liègeois, Antwerp Ice Hockey Club, Brussels Ice Hockey and Skating Club

I have it in an excelsheet but cannot post it here because it gives a messy output in this editor......
It is from 1911 till 1994

    Is that what you want?

Too bad the book doesn't have any year-by-year standings, but yes, I would appreciate seeing the full list of participants in all years from 1911-1994 if at all possible. That's more info than I currently have and is certainly better than nothing. So if you could show me the list it would be great.

    By the way:
The translation for "niet gespeeld" is "not played" so there was no competition than.
And in the season 1961-1962 there are 2 champions !!!!!!!!!!

    Have fun

    For the record,

There is almost nothing available from the 60's 70's and 80's from Belgium, France and The Netherlands.

I have a great website (uhm, sorry) that handles a dutch club called TYSC Trappers.
You can find it here : http://www.tysctrappers.nl

In the upper right corner you can choose the dutch or english language so it is easier to read for you.

    Have fun.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to post the information! I appreciate it tremendously. Too bad only the champions were known prior to 1960. But the other info is great nonetheless.

I've found at least the final placement for the French leagues and all standings from the Dutch competitions from that timeframe, though admittedly there doesn't seem to be all that many details floating around on them. However, Belgian info is extremely scarce for much of its league's existence.

And I have been on your site before. Lots of great info on both the Trappers and Dutch hockey in general. It's actually where I found the Dutch results in my aforementioned post.

Dan, look at Dutchie's above post (number 10, to be exact). The top finishers are listed in order, with the top two or three teams listed from the 1959-60 season onwards. Unfortunately, only the first-place finishers are known before 1960.

Very cool! Thank you for sharing!

By the way, do either of the books we discussed last month have a list of all teams ever to play in the Belgian Championship?

I'm pretty sure just about all Belgian results from this era can be found in this publication... Not sure if microfilm can be ordered, but I will be looking into this...

Here's a complete list of newspapers that might contain useful information on Belgian hockey:

    http://opac.kbr.be/index.php?P0=QFIC...chfield%5B%5D= - La Dernière Heure/Les Sports (1906-1993)

    http://opac.kbr.be/index.php?P0=QFIC...chfield%5B%5D= - Sportwereld : Orgaan aller sporten (1912-1930)

http://opac.kbr.be/index.php?P0=QFIC...chfield%5B%5D= - Sportwereld en Het Algemeen Nieuws (1930-1939)

    http://opac.kbr.be/index.php?P0=QFIC...chfield%5B%5D= - Sportwereld en Het Nieuwsblad (1939-1940)

http://opac.kbr.be/index.php?P0=QFIC...chfield%5B%5D= - Het Algemeen Nieuws (met Sportwereld) (1940-1944)

    http://opac.kbr.be/index.php?P0=QFIC...chfield%5B%5D= - Sport-Echo : Het Sportblad voor Vlaanderen (1940-1944)

Some remarks here Red Maple Leaf.

    1) You have to go to Brussels to read the newspapers.
    2) You have to have a permit to enter the library ( 5 euro's for one day or 25 euro's for a whole year )
    3) The library is open from monday to friday from 09:00 - 18:45 hours
    4) there is a strict policy of photography

A lot is not accesable because of the copyright on the newspapers

So not as easy as you think.................

I was under the impression one could order microfilm of various publications and have it sent? Very frustrating how unhelpful a lot of these places are... Research can be challenging enough without all the needless complications you run into.

Thanks for your comment though, I appreciate it. Maybe I can find someone who lives in that region to visit the library for me. Because I do not see myself making it overseas at this time.

    Hello Red Maple Leaf,

I have tried to access old newspapers in Belgium via the internet and this is what I got :

"Dear user, you have just tried to open a page that is younger than 70 years. Because of copyright reasons they are restricted.
In the libraries, archives and documentation centers of Diksmuide, Heuvelland, Ieper, Koksijde, Kortemark, Langemark-Poelkapelle, Mesen, Poperinge, Veurne, Vleteren and Zonnebeke can be viewed all digital newspapers without restrictions.
Newspapers older than 70 are fully open and accessible from any computer with Internet access.
Thank you for your interest in our Historical Newspapers!"

So in Belgium it is even worser then in the Netherlands
