I would love if the AHL's most historic club, the Hershey Bears, came to compete. I would really love an EBEL club as well - that league has risen in a few short years to be a truly elite league.

I've not seen anything yet, but I think the talks will come around again probably week or two before start of the tournament.

Get the New York Rangers in there. It seems like they won't ever be able to deliver a very deserving Henrik Lundqvist the Stanley Cup, so why not try for a Spengler Cup?

Seriously, how cool would it be to finally get an NHL team to compete?

NHL team would be great!! But I think we all know that wont happen at least not for a long time. I hope to see a DEL next year. Would of rather seen a DEL or EBEL team over Salavat this upcoming tourney.

It's a short tournament. Pargatzi and Bettman could easily arrange it if there was mutual interest.

True, but with rumors of the NHL wanting out of the Olympics what would make them wanna participate in a tournament like the SC

I'm not suggesting that the NHL wants to.....just pointing out that the league could send a team if it wanted to without much difficulty. It's a short tournament and an NHL team's schedule could be tweaked to make it work.

Why might the NHL choose to send a team one day? Well, the league is always talking about expanding its marketing presence in those areas of Europe with a rich hockey tradition, and Switzerland qualifies. The Spengler Cup itself has a rich tradition (far beyond, for example, the moribund Victoria Cup) and sending a team would certainly create all kinds of buzz for the league in Europe, without the need for the entire NHL to shut down for even a day.

Of course, if the NHL did send a team, I would root for it to win, unless the team sent were any of the NJ Devils, NY Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Columbus Blue Jackets, or L.A. Kings. No way I am rooting for any of those clubs.

Genéve-Servette reinforcements: Francis Bouillon, Inti Pestoni and Ramon Untersander. Pestoni played for the club in Spengler Cup last year too.

Any talk of the Spengler Cup offering to show its games on American television, whether live or on tape delay? I am sure it could find an audience in a nation of 350-400 million.

I am getting tired of watching games after the fact on youtube, or on strange websites that infect my P.C. with viruses. :/

    Russia: Sport1 Channel
    Czech Republic/Slovakia: Nova Sport
    Italy: Nuvolari
    Mexico: Sky

    So... I don't know :(

I am not sure, but try Sportska TV and then you go to "hokej". There should be stream, because croatian sportklub will broadcast games, starting from 27th :)

Guys, what's your expectations on the tournament? Team Canada maybe is not so strong than last year, but they can compete. Geneve could make there again and surprise everyone. Salavat, hmm, it's about they're attitude. If they want to play well they can easily do it. Davos is strong with 5(!) Swedes. It was first time for long either Canada or Davos made the final! Medvescak is my second team here. If Jokerit can't do it I'm rooting for them. Jokerit is okay, we should make the real semis, then I would be ok with our performance.

My personal favorite is Davos. They want to make the final. Other finalist goes between alle three KHL clubs. Let's see!

Happy Holidays to everyone and enjoy the Vaillant Arena's atmosphere in the attendance or home!

    Genéve-Servette - Salavat Yulaev Ufa 3-0 after 1st

Both teams played safe until Genéve got their first PP. And they scored. Timothy Kast on the rebound, top corner! Then Salavat had two gorgeous chances to tie the game. A breakaway and a mistake pass from Vukovic led to great chance, but they didn't convert. Following PP and Genéve scored again. Nicely played from Tom Pyatt and Jacquemet to Taylor Pyatt who finished from the back post. Then Genéve rolled! Third goal was on a breakaway from Inti Pestoni, it followed a mistake on the blueline from Lekomtsev who tried to board it, but it deflected to Pestoni who skated through the ice and finished with a filthy forehand!

    Genéve-Servette - Salavat Yulaev Ufa 3-2 after 2nd

Salavat came back with a storm. They showed from the 21st minute that they will not leave with nothing tonight. They created chances and dominated the play. Only hazard came in they're first PP of the period when Genéve had 3v1, but couldn't score. Slightly after it Slepyshev got the puck, dangled few times (backhand, forehand) and sniped through Bays' armpit. Genéve couldn't create plays anymore and the puck was on they're zone most of the period. And then, during they're 3rd PP of the period. They cut Genéve's lead in 1. As Ilkka Heikkinen's snapshot went five hole.

I think it is a wide open field this year. Canada looks a bit weaker than usual in my opinion. Interestingly, this is the one tournament where, for whatever reason, I don't feel like a traitor if I root for the Canadian side on occasion.

    Genéve-Servette - Salavat Yulaev Ufa 3-2 FINAL

Wow. Hard, fighting 3rd! Genéve wanted hardly to score one to secure the win and Ufa fought back hard trying to tie. Both teams hit the post, Genéve twice (Wick, Gerber) and Ufa (Kaigorodov). Very close game where either team could take it home! Great way to start this traditional tournament once again!

Next up at 19:15 GMT (21:15 +2) Davos - Canada which will be tough!

    Davos - Canada 1-0 after 2nd

Very intense game and what a goal from Beat Forster! He went between two guys and then helluva backhand to top-corner! Genoni is stealing the game for Davos with numerous game savers. Davos had few breakaways too in the first period, but they played much better in the 2nd and did not slip so many chances.
