Dordrecht Lions will not be Beneleaging coming season, they will play 1st division ... probably because of the money but their players aren't quite up to that level yet either

unfortunate but with Groningen stepping up (who in my opinion allready had a stronger squad last season) we still have 16 teams which is better then 15 ... but I'm kind of expecting Heist op den Berg to drop out as well

hopefully some of these players can move to other Beneleague crews in the region, Amsterdam should grab the D-men ... and all Collardses

Phantoms will add Amine van de Putte who has not played last year to their selection. Ben van den Boagaert, Kenneth Pittoors, Niki de Herdt, Kenny de Ceulaer and Jordy van de Locht have all relisted.

    http://www.ijshockey.com/item/5608/a...tie-stevig-uit

stefaan swennen will apperantly not be coming to Antwerp but will be playing in Mechelen (Belgian national league) instead

which gives us a pretty clear picture of what the Phantoms will look like next season:

    Forwards
    Amine van de Putte
    Ben van den Boagaert
    Kenneth Pittoors
    Kenny de Ceulaer
    Jordy van de Locht
    kevin de winter
    marek ziarny
    lukasz bartak
    patrick jr van noten

    Defencemen
    Niki de Herdt
    dimitri kerremans
    peter bartek

needs some more D and the goalie question needs to be answered but all in all, looks good so far and way stronger then last year (6th in Poule A with 5 wins, 2 OTW, 2 OTL and 13 losses for 21 points out of 22 matches) so maybe someone will come watch them play every now and again

uh oh ... trouble in paradise!

    The competition:

It is at this point still unclear what the competition will look like and which teams will definately participate. The general thought was to make as little adjustments to the competition/cup setup compared to last season. Only some changes to the allignment of the pouls were to be made to make them more comperative, other then that no changes. The NIJB has however indicated that all Dutch clubs participating in the BeNe-League will also be forced to participate in the Dutch Cup, which has caused a lot of friction.

Problem is that there are a number of clubs that can't or won't play more then 1 to 1,5 games a week. A single club has allready stated that it would pull out if it is forced to play for the cup ...

Geleens point of view is that there should be more clubs playing for the cup then last year but it is not a breakingpoint in Geleen if not all clubs can or want to participate. The only wish in Geleen is to have as many games in Glanerbrook as possible and more a more balenced skill level for both poules. The clubs and the NIJB will come together for an extra meeting next week in order to come to a (good) decision that is supported by all clubs. An utopia? We shall see!
Also Erik Tummers and Jeffrey van Iersel of the Eaters will retire while Valentijn Bouten will play for Flyers again next season

Deniz Mollen moves back to Eindhoven to tend goal for the Kemphanen, not sure why they ever let him go but either way it seems like a good move for everyone involved, if they can keep Wim van den Hout they'll probably have one of the strongest if not the strongest goalie tandems in the league but I would not mind if Amsterdam grabbed the latter ;)

    http://www.ed.nl/sport/sport-regio/k...anen-1.6141994

Ritchie van Hulten and Jeffrey Melissant will return to Tilburg, this probably evens the odds between the divisions a little bit as it should turn the Trappers into big contenders while it hurts the Panters in a big way, they may need to start looking for imports as the duo (22 goals, 54 assists for 76 points in 39 games) will be very difficult to replace with Dutch and/or Belgian players ... and last season one of their import slots was taken by goalie Holske so if they are going to keep him they will need to get some super awesome superguy to replace the two!

    http://www.ijshockey.com/item/5611/v...g-naar-tilburg

Aldo van Aalderen and Mark Hoekstra will stay with the Flyers which isn't all that surprising

    http://www.unisflyers.nl/nieuws/unis...mark-hoekstra/
    http://www.unisflyers.nl/nieuws/aldo...j-unis-flyers/

the NIJB itself appears to have struck a deal with Kroon casino which is some kind of online sports betting service owned by a Swedish company called Bettson but it will only happen if the government finally comes up with some kind of legislation on online sports betting, I think it'll happen at some point but not any time soon

Nick Verschuren returns to the Kemphanen after a great year in Turnhout (16 goals and 22 assists in 18 games) and Alan van Bentem will stay with HIJS Hokij as expected

Johan Rurup and Clint Soer will also stay with HIJS, first game will be a friendly against Tilburg Trappers (Beneliga) on 10 september at 20:30 in the Sportboulevard in Dordrecht as the Uithof traditionally gets it's ice late september

Wim van den Hout will indeed be staying in Eindhoven with the Kemphanen just like Mike Verschuren, looks like the Hanen mean business next season but I don't think they're a contender just yet

    http://eindhoven-kemphanen.com/?p=92

Dean Thurura will be staying in Leuven according to the Chiefs twitter but I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere ... it's not unexpected either way

HYC's Vadim Gyesbreghs and Bryan Kolodziejczyk will both be moving to Brest in France, I'm sure they'll be able to replace them but it's still 44 goals and 78 assists in 41 regular season games that just up and left!!

Niels van der Vossen and Marco Postma will also stay with the Flyers (Postma signed up for 3 years) while both Stace van Bentem, Maurice van der Schuit and Marco Bommezijn have signed up for another year with HIJS

    http://www.unisflyers.nl/nieuws/van-...flyersa-shirt/

    http://www.haagsetopsport.nl/selecti...ij-krijgt-vorm

this gives us a Flyers crew with:

    C
    Mike Nason
    G
    Sjoerd Idzenga
    D
    Pippo Limnel Finnochiaro
    Yan Turcotte
    Mark Hoekstra
    F
    Aldo van Aalderen
    Valentijn Bouten
    Ronald Wurm
    Marco Postma

    and for HIJS Hokij

    C
    Chris Eimers
    G
    Clint Soer
    Fabian Schotel
    D
    Maurice van der Schuit
    F
    Jasper Kick
    Filipe Martinec
    Joey Oosterveld
    Raymond van der Schuit
    Stace van Bentem
    Johan Rurup
    Mitchel van Bentem
    Marco Bommezijn

HIJS has it's offense all sorted out while the Flyers need more players all around but we can allmost start playing hockey games with these teams!

Amsterdam still only has a coach and no Oosterveld ...

Amsterdam announces it's core group of players:

    Forwards
    Tobias Kathan
    Michael Mackie Kwist
    Julian Berteling
    Calvin Pohlman
    Daniel Lam
    Donny van Musscher
    Rocco van Hoorn

    Defencemen
    Jasper Jaspers
    Marino Bakker
    Sam van Duin

    Goalies
    Danny van Rijswijk
    Jacob van Duin

it's solid but it needs more D and a goalscorer, if this is the best we've got then we won't make the playoffs this time around, fortunately I still live in the Hague ... there will also be an exhibition game against both the Devils in Nijmegen and the Flyers in Heerenveen

Eaters announced that their goalies Rowan Delil who is awesome and Stef Verhulst will be staying

Willy Schut and Valentijn Scheffe will play for the Red Eagles next year ... they haven't had much succes in the past years and I doubt they'll have much next year but slowly but surely they are getting somewhere in Den Bosch!

rumour has it that both Olympia Heist op den Berg and Turnhout Tigers wont be Beneleaging next season but that's just rumours

would make 14 teams wich is not bad if we played home AND away games against everybody, for 26 matches, as it would mean a step up from last years 22 matches

meanwhile Leeuwarden announced they will play first division coming season for the first time in 20 years .. no word on Utrecht yet other then that they are looking for U17 players

In the new competition format for the second season of the BeNe-Liga HIJS Hokij and Zoetermeer Panters will be playing in different poules. Because of these both rivals will only meet once in the regular season. In the Cuptournament both hockeyclubs from Zuid Holland will play in poule B meaning it will have two Derby's.

Due to the fact that Dordrecht, Heist op den Berg and Turnhout having withdrawn compared to last year and Groningen making it's return to the highest level the BeNe-League will start in september with fourteen teams. These will be divided up into to poules of seven in which Zoetermeer Panters will play in Poule A and HIJS Hokij will play in Poule B. The teams will play home and away matches among each other within their respective poules while they will only meet teams from the outher poule only once in the regular competition. The best four teams will place themselves for the quarterfinals.

    Final 4
The NIJB's plan to set up a Final 4 competition besides the BeNe-League is new. The two best Dutch teams per poule will qualify for it. During the weekend of 24, 25, 26th of februari in a still to be determined location the teams will fight for the title of champion of the Netherlands.

    Poule setup BeNe Liga
Poule A: Zoetermeer Panters, Nijmegen Devils, Eindhoven Kemphanen, Amsterdam Tijgers, Antwerp Phantoms, Herentals, Tilburg Trappers Toekomstteam.

Poule B: Hijs Hokij Den Haag, GIJS Groningen, Leuven Chiefs, Limburg Eaters Geleen, Bulldogs Liège, Red Eagles Den Bosch, Heerenveen Flyers.

    Cup
To sum it all up HIJS and Panters did sign up for the cuptournament did year. Both teams will teams will play in one poule meaning that the cup competition will have a 'clash of the west' twice. Other opponents will be GIJS Groningen, Amsterdam Tijgers and Heerenveen Flyers. In Group A will be the other Dutch teams except Eindhoven which has declined for the cup tournament.
    translated from
    http://www.haagsetopsport.nl/hijs-en...s-zelfde-poule

incidentally the cup tournament wont feature interconference games so that's 6 games for group A and 8 games for group B, top 2 advance to the semi's which will be best-of-3 just like both quarter and semi finals in the BeNe-League ... BeNe-League final will be best-of-5

for Amsterdam this means a minimum of 27 games and a maximum of I believe 39 games

season starts on the 24th in Geleen with the Ron Bertelingschaal (supercup) between Eaters and Flyers

    game on!

I'm running behind a bit but that's ok, it's still a long ways away from winter!

Liege Bulldogs resigned Jean Cornelis and Tom Prodi as their goalie duo.

Amsterdam grabbed Tobie Collard from Dordrecht and Mike Overweg will be joining his brother Stef with the Tijgers, Jozef Hutar will make a step up from Amsterdams second division squad and I expect them to do very well indeed ... I want 60 points out of these three combined in the regular season (cup and beneliga)!

Zoetermeer also started announcing players, Joy Turpijn and Cas Staps will stay with the Panters

Eaters have retained the services of Defencemen Glenn Bakx, Kay Gielen and Forwards Tom Marx , Kai Willems, Jord Smit, Joey Geurts, Lars Engwegen, Lars van Sloun

they will also get Justin Evers from the Red Eagles and Rick van Haren back from the Panters

Leuven Chiefs confirmed Dean Thurura and resigned Boris Kolyasnikov

Josh Prudden will come out of retirement and play in the Beneliga ... I'm now upping my expectations of the new guys to 100 points in the regular season because this guy is super awesome all we need now is some more D and then there will be prizes, celebrations and hopefully beer

    http://www.amsteltijgers.nl/tobie-co...mstel-tijgers/

Groningen has allso started announcing players
Daan van Fessem and goalies Tom Korte and Jeff Honebeeke will all be playing in the Beneliga coming season while Jari Hiemstra will move from Heerenveen to Groningen, the team will be coached by Arjan Peters who could probably still play in this league ... season tickets will cost 85 euro (single game is 7,50) which seems to be the average this year

accordeing to the facebooks Mike Gysbrechts and Martin Vachal will join the Chiefs while Maxime Pellegrims will stay with the chiefs

the Bulldogs will complete their selection by flying in Garret Brazzier and Cheyne Matheson from New England College (NCAA III) and very surprisingly Akim Ramoul from Geleen!

nothing yet from Herentals but with these additions and the beefed up Antwerp Phantoms winning Belgian prices might not be so easy this time around ... first game of the season will see round one as the for the most part still unknown Chiefs will try to take on the as of yet completely unknown HYC squad!

Chiefs scored early but HYC scored twice in the third winning the game 1:2

Everything else is top secret apperantly as I can't really find anymore info, 4 games next weekend
league schedule is still a mistery, I guess I'll have to keep the entire winter free for now if I don't want to miss anything but hey...

    off season time

there's been some mutations but first and foremost, NIJB just quit Beneliga because they can't work with the RBIHF apperantly, Belgian hockeyboss is all kinds of surprised and so am I

NIJB is saying there will be a Dutch competition and the Belgians are welcome while the Belgians are saying that they will only allow Belgian clubs to join the Dutch competition if Dutch clubs are allowed to go the other way as well

    it's all crazyness

ok Beneliga v3 is back on NIJB (which will be called IJshockeyNederland from now on) dropped it's problems for the time being and is back in!!

probably because at least 5 Dutch teams and all Belgian teams elected to play continue Beneliga with the Belgian federation and that did not leave much to work with but it's all done in secret so I don't really know what's going on.

the issues they should be ironed out during the coming season, if not (reads as; if the Dutch don't get their way) they will pull out of Beneliga v4 ... it sounds like a threat but I've been assured that it isn't even though it is

anyways, now that that's been settled ...

    transfertime!

Nijmegen Devils will get a huge boost with Levi Houkes who quit the Tilburg Oberliga squad (83 games, 26 goals and 40 assists) due to family matters (just had a baby), they also got Justin Evers (19 games 7 goals and 9 assists) and Rick van Haren from Geleen (17games 1 goal and 8 assists and 1 assist at the division 1B tournament in Belfast)
Luuk Lambrechts (9 games, 2 goals) and Martijn Geerligs (14 games, 1 assist) from Tilburgs Beneliga squad
Danny Mols (19 games 1 goal, 4 assists) from the Red Eagles who will also bring the new head coach Jeffrey van Iersel
And last but most definately not least Eindhoven's top defenceman Marek Pitka (19 games, 10 goals 25 assists and 2 goals and 1 assist in 2 games during the final four tournament)!
There should also be a second import on offense...

    They have also resigned:
Willem Gloudemans (22 games, 1 goal, 2 assists)
Rick Wijnen (16 games, 2 goals, 13 assists)
Mitchel Knoop (19 games 1 goal, 1 assist)

Wessel Copier (15 games, 4 goals, 3 assists)
Jay Plamont (9 games, 4 goals, 3 assists)
Mike Vedder (19 games, 2 goals, 5 assists)
Jake Hendriks (5 games, 1 goal, 2 assists)
Jesse Hendriks (19 games, 2 goals, 2 assists)

there will also be two preseason games against the Hammer Eisbaren of the german regionalliga on 22-9 in Nijmegen and 24-9 in Lippe Hamm.

it looks really damn good, still a little on the young side but with Houkes and Pitka a wealth of international experiance and Evers and van Haren are players to watch in the future ... hopefully they can do with less injuries (the loss of Plamont and Jake Hendriks was felt!) and they will have a great season in Nijmegen!

at least better then last year in which they ended last in their group

here's a photo from their final game

a massive 1380 spectators showed for a game against Tilburg, they lost 2-5 but hopefelly we'll start seeing crowds like this at the Triavium more often from now on :)

    speaking of Eaters :)

they announced pretty much everybody couple of nights ago during an event in some warehouse

    Goalies:
    34 Rowan Delil
31 Michael Sterkens (new: Red Eagles Den Bosch)

    Defence:
03 Remco Knoren (new: Red Eagles Den Bosch)
06 Vadim Gyesbreghs (new: Brest Albatros)
24 Mordy Munichman (new: New Tecumseth Civics)
    27 Levi Smeets
    49 Glenn Bakx

    Forward:
    07 Mitch Koumans
    09 Lars van Sloun
    10 Kai Willems
    11 Tom Marx
    20 Luca Heutmekers
    21 Renzo Meulenbeek
    22 Jord Smit
64 Maxime Pellegrims (new: Chiefs Leuven)
    67 Joey Geurts

Coach will be Andy Tenbult again, five new guys so far, Vadim is great but they aren't going to win it outright with this crew though there are no imports yet at this point (Belgians don't count in Beneliga) so who knows

I'm putting them in the quarter finals at this point

there's nothing in Amsterdam at this point but that's just how they seem to roll hopefully it's going to be awesome because I will be whining about it all the way to christmas if it's not

    just sayin

Red Eagles are taking a hit from all these offseason shenanigans but location, location, location ... they are pretty close to pretty much everybody!

there's still plenty of guys up for grabs especially if they have a sponsor that can put up some kind of housing but I'm not sure if they do ... probably not

they can get everybody from Amsterdam because the club seems to be hibernating again

Kemphanen are allmost good to go, Ritchie van Hulten and the coach being the only new guys so far but he did pretty good in the oberliga so he'll be a welcome adddition, the Kemphanen stated earlier that they were going for an all Dutch crew if they could but they would need more then this to replace last years imports (Pitka and Nomanovas) who managed 76 points in 40 games between them

    in any case:

    Offence:
    Mike Verschuren

    Nick Verschuren
Ritchie van Hulten (new: Tilburg Trappers)
    Angelo van Hulten
    Lucca Kluijtmans
    Damian Kluijtmans
    Jorn van Soest

    Defence:
    Boris Ševo
    Sebastián Kragt
    Jorn van Gestel
    Koen Bakker
    Jorn van Soest
    Niek van der Meulen
    Perry Muller von Czernicki

    goal:
    Wim van den Hout

    coach:
    Larry Suarez (new: HC Merano)

Nijmegen will round out it's new recruits with Lithuanian international Aivaras Bendzius who managed 2 goals and 1 assist in Belfast, mostly against the Netherlands they will play 4 lines and the remaining players will come from the club itself so you can probably make educated guesses if you wanted

they also added another two practice matches against EG Diez-Limburg Rockets, 15 september (time t.b.a.) in Diez and on 17 september on 17.15 at home at the Triavium.

looks good so far, for now I'm putting them ahead of both Kemphanen and Eaters

unsurprisingly the Devils have resigned their goalie duo Tomislav Hrelja and Jeffrey Vermeulen

meanwhile the Panters have also started announcing players:

    F
    Ludek Skop (16GP 21G 15A)
    Thomas Borgman (19GP 8G 3A)
    Cas Staps (19GP 11G 23A)
    D
    Chris Toonen (19GP 2G 4A)
    Roy van Aggelen (13GP 0G 0A)

nothing new yet but it's a good start, they were quite good defensively (5th in the league when it comes to goals scored against them) last year but their ability to score goals was not so great with no less then 9 teams scoring more goals then them including both Phantoms and Trappers who did not make the playoffs, they need 2 or three guys that can score a point per game and another Skop or Staps

I think they should not import their goalie this time around and import another forward as I don't really see any transfer opportunities

except from Amsterdam who have not announced anyone yet

HIJS is up next, they've announced most their squad allread but I'm backlogged because everybody is offseasoning unusually early this season

HIJS right now looks like this:

    coach:
    Chris Eimers

    goalie:
    Fabian Schotel

    defence:
    Jurryt Smid
    Mike van Oeveren
    Thomas Roosendaal

    forward:
    Alan van Bentem
    Stace van Bentem
    Marco Bommezijn
    Jasper Kick
    Joey Oosterveld
    Raymond van der Schuit
    Jeffrey Melissant

Johnny Ebregt will not be Beneleaging in the Hague, I expect him in Zoetermeer but Amsterdam's a fun place to play hockey as well and it's defence can use the help

just throwing it out there since nothing seems to be happening :)

Zoetermeer will get Valentijn Scheffe from Red Eagles

    Flyers up next

Does anyone know when the 2017-2018 season will get underway? I will be visiting the Netherlands in September for the first time in years and am hoping to see my beloved HYS The Hague once again

I believe the 2017-2018 season will start from the first weekend of october. However, HYS has scheduled two preparation home games against German teams in september. On 9th september vs Neusser EV and on 23rd september vs Dinslakener Kobras.

I was happy to be at the game between HIJS and Neuss on September 9. HIJS was the much stronger team, they dominated the play and won 4-0, I believe. Neuss looked like they were still getting organised for the season -- about half their players were using someone else's old jersey with duct tape covering up the name. I was impressed by the Neusser cheering section, though!

It was great to be back at De Uithof. They had made some changes since I was last there nine years ago: plexiglass was all around the arena instead of just behind the nets, they got rid of the overhead scoreboard, and added seats where there was previously "standing room" (which were obviously just sections missing seats). I was sad that they didn't serve whiskey at the rinkside concession stand anymore, but I guess I was the only one who ever drank it.

It was a lot of fun -- I brought my son, who for the last two periods insisted that we wander around the rink.

Have a great season! HUP HIJS!
