All very obvious picks that will give some interesting pairings. Zell and Kitzbühel are just a few dozen kilometers apart and there's a long relation between the cubs as for many years when Kitzbühel was playing in a lower league than Zell, Kitzbühel always had players from Zell who didn't get a spot anymore with their home team on the roster. Full rinks to be expected in this series.
Feldkirch's choice of Kapfenberg was clear too, the Steelers might by a slightly harder opponent than Ljubljana but Kapfenberg is still a household name in Austrian hockey and probably easier to sell tickets for. With Jesenice vs. Ljubljana there's a Slovenian derby as well and Lustenau vs. Bregenzerwald as Vorarlberg duel will certainly pack the house. Except for this series I expect the higher seeded teams to move on quite easily however. The top 5 were incredibly balanced but the gap to the lower group is pretty big.

Bad news from Kapfenberg, the Steelers might not be able to play the upcoming post-season as their players apparently have not received their pay and threaten to boycott the games. I am not really surprised, hockey in Kapfenberg (once a stronghold of the sport in Austria) is struggling big time since years with the overall trend going downhill. The Steelers project seemed very ambitious going from the third tier into INL with that kind of roster was to say the least very ambitious and can only work with strong support from the local key partners which unfortunately was not the case in other past attempts to sustain at least second tier hockey (the short lived Stars, Bulls teams). As it seems it also isn't the case this time....

It would be such a shame if that is their final fate but it would all make sense. Throughout the season the warning signs where there, lack of players on a couple occasions, their President or GM, one of the two, needing to unretire so they could have enough players. Hope they are able to find support from somewhere, atleast so they can finish the season.

Not much time to make up their minds and likely now too late for Celje to replace them.

That was the team's manager, Jiri Hala. Certainly a warning sign, I agree. Latest news are that prior to the game in Feldkirch the Steelers' players had a meeting with the club's president Gerhard Hasewend where both sides agreed on a plan how to proceed. Mr. Hasewend admitted in a public statement that the Steeler's way of operation is far from optimal but has confirmed to strive for putting up the lacking funds.

So Kapfenberg did play the games against Feldkirch so far and the Steelers have put up at least a kind of good fight. Concnerning the problems the club has, there was an interesting interview with head coach Stefan Mikes (SVK) these days in "Kleine Zeitung" newspaper. Mikes has a lot of praise for his players and other than that nothing much good to say on the club. Amateurish organization, no communication and what's worst no pay.

Wasnt expecting there to be much of a battle in the Quarters, especially with the way the league shaped up but I really didnt expect to see Bregenzerwald trail the series 0-3. Figured this would be the only half decent series but I guess thats Raitums at work. ;)

The 6.March meeting between HDD Jesenice v. HK Ljubljana result has been vacated and the clubs must replay the over-time period. The officials for the match made a mistake in having a 4 on 4 situation instead of a 5 on 5, Ljubljana was given a penalty that resulted in a 4 on 3 which Jesenice was able to take advantage of.

A new date for the over-time will be announced with 24hrs back in Jesenice, with only the same players who were dressed for the 6.March meeting.

Should Jesenice reclaim the victory in over-time, they will win the series 4-0 and meet Feldkirch in the Semi-finals, a win for Ljubljana extends the series.

Well, guess the league needed some chaos. But the semi-finals wouldn't have started before the 21st of March anyway so there should be enough time to sort this issue out.

The replayed overtime period between HDD Jesenice v. HK Ljubljana has been cancelled and the result at 1:0 is handed over to Jesenice and the series at 4-0 remains in their favour. HK Ljubljana has failed to show up for the meeting on either Wednesday or Thursday, they never gave an answer to Jesenice when the match would be played on Wednesday and on Thursday their calls went unanswered.

Jesenice moves on to take on Feldkirch.

HK Ljubljana has failed to show up for the meeting on either Wednesday or Thursday, they never gave an answer to Jesenice when the match would be played on Wednesday and on Thursday their calls went unanswered.

Jesenice moves on to take on Feldkirch.

    http://www.eishockey.at/inter-nation...im-halbfinale/
From what I got from other sources (INL Facebook page has a statement from Slavia on the matter) OEHV only informed the teams that the overtime has to be played again on either Wednesday or Thursday on Wednesday and then Jesenice unilaterally scheduled the repitition for the same day at 7pm but only informed Slavia about that at 3pm in the afternoon which was too late to make the trip to Jesenice...

This incident doesn't really shed a good light on the league. The ruling of OEHV and how it was executed by Jesenice time wise basically made it impossible for Slavia to show up, that's clear.

Why didnt the ÖEHV handle the scheduling instead of leaving it in the hands of Jesenice? If they wanted the match to be played on either Wednesday or Thursday, why not send an e-mail or call both clubs, tell them to pick a time what would work for the both parties and then have the match played. I understand getting the match out of the way just incase Ljubljana did win and extended the series but they should of atleast had a fighting chance to show up for the meeting.

Also, shame on Jesenice for the timing thing, even though Ljubljana is what, 60 some km from Jesenice, letting them know by 15h to get all their players together after school or work, on the bus and into Jesenice before 19h is really hard task to do in 4hrs.

    Inter National League

What is the pay like in the INL? I understand as Austrian teams consider this pro and pay there players and the Slovenian clubs do not? If someone with more information could help that would be much appreciated!

The Austrian INL teams are semi-pro, i.e. many (I guess a majority of) players have jobs besides playing hockey. Imports and the best domestic players are I think fully pro. No idea however about precise salary figuers. Good enough to compete with other lesser European leagues for players that could play either here or there obviously (check out where imports moving in/out come from go to).

    How about those Latvians.....and company

But on a serious note, Lustenau has been great since bringing in Raitums. Still would love to see Feldkirch fight back, I know we have had some close series in terms of matches but the series always went one direction very fast.

Very decent attendance in Vorarlberg for the INL finals. Feldkirch vs. Lustenau is the classic hockey derby of the province and usually VEU are the favourites. This time Lustenau seems to have the upper hand. Our buddy Felix Kozak surely likes that ;-)

Wasnt the biggest fan of Lustenau but still happy to see Raitums, Freimanis and Siksnis become Champions! So congrats to them and to the rest of Lustenau.

As well, no matter what happens to the INL next season, it was fun covering the league this season (along with that wonderful summer theatre), just walk away disappointed Celje couldnt get into the play-offs and EKZ had to run into Lustenau. Would be more than happy to do it again next season, even if it turns into EBEL II or whatever they wish to call it.
