Jennifer Wakefield to debut for IK Guts in SWE-5 league

HockeyExpressen has an article on Jennifer Wakefield who will debut for IK Guts in their game against Mjölby in the fifth-tier league HockeyTrean Södra D.

(She's received a couple of hits, two that I have seen, and she has managed well. It hasn't crossed my mind that it was a girl receiving the hits).

In her debut, Jennifer Wakefield helped her team IK Guts with an assist. See article here in Hockeybladet.

Nice news. Let's hope she sticks at it and maybe climbs up the league levels!

Jennifier Wakefield has pretty good stats in IK Guts, in 15 GP she has 5G+8A.

She has also played 15 games with Linköpings HC in the Women's league Riksserien with 18G+4A.

She will move up one division this year and play for IFK Ore.

Great news! She had pretty strong point totals last year, so hopefully she can continue to improve and show how good she can be.
Hayley Wickenheiser did pretty well in the short time she played in Europe for men's clubs as well. If Wakefield finds some success here, will this push more men's clubs at this level to look more seriously at top female players to fill some of these spots? And if so, what would that mean for the women's leagues?

IFK Ore withdrew from this season and Jennifer Wakefield has instead played with Borås HC in HockeyTvåan Södra A.

According to Aftonbladet Jennifer has announced that she will leave Borås after too limited ice time and will return to Canada.

She had 1 assist in 6 games with Borås.

What happened to Ore? Financial issues?
Really too bad to hear this for Jennifer. I wonder where she'll end up now.

Ore has had financial problems but had a budget in place to field a team in Div 2 this year. But they were short on both staff and players and finally decided to withdraw the team and focus on a restart in Div 3 next year. They have concentrated on their youth teams, U10-U16 and J18 teams this season.

Jennifer Wakefield did not return to Canada after all, she has returned to Linköping in Riksserien, the top Swedish women's league.

Hockeysverige reports that Jennifer scored 7 goals in the two games played this weekend.
