    European Club Rankings 2014/15

Here is the new edition of European club rankings for season 2014/15 :
    http://www.passionhockey.com/hockeyarchives/eur2015.htm

CSKA back to top like in old Soviet times.
Skellefteå is the first non-Russian club to get to top-3 three years in a row.

I always enjoy these rankings but one thing jumped out to me right away is why does Oulu get dropped two positions and surpassed by Växjö? I can understand the whole KHL ranking of clubs but Oulu won the regular season for the second straight season, they were also crowned Champions for the second season. Växjö didnt win the league until the play-offs, they also missed the Champions League play-offs while Oulu won their Group and advanced to the Semi-finals.
If the weight is on...SHL is better than FEL, thats fine, most people rate it that way but its not so much better that a double Champion is surpassed by them.

Ohh well, always made for an interesting topic.

I don't know what a "professionnal" rating is and how it would be better, except that you would be paid to do it... It's just a question of method.

Starkovs, to answer your question : yes, SHL is better than Liiga (and proved it in CHL), but that's not much new and was weighed before. You also have to look the way Kärpät went to championships.
During previous season, they were clearly on top with 131 points and +84, this year 115 points and +41 (and that's in an "easier" league who got a weaker club - Vaasan Sport - instead of Jokerit).
In playoffs they won their series in 4, in 5 and in 7 last season, in 5, in 7 and in 7 (second overtime) this year. This led to them dropping just a bit, but enough to lose 2 positions as you mentioned. Figures have no pity even for champions.

Oh, and the rankings work only for the season it is made for : a double champion gets no advantage on a first-time champion (unless of course you add rankings during several years to get a bigger picture).

Do you have a league ranking for the preparation of the club ranking? If yes, what are the main points which makes a league better than an other?

    Hi Kerusz,

League rankings and club rankings are a bit linked with each other, since clubs make leagues.
Rankings are made purely on sports' point of view (player level, crossed results).

Other points (attendance, budget and so on) are not taken into consideration here. We're talking only about results.

Still, there could be other "philosophical" answers to your question "what makes a league better than another"?

what is your mathemathic model for this ranking? and what percent of your opinion in it?) I think that main rating factor is your assessment of leagues' powers but must be only mathematic. (See Elo or Glicko better)
