A good start for Pantern, they open up their first match in Allsvenskan with a victory over former HockeyEttan opponents Sundsvall.

Timrå has a tough start. They start off facing four predicted top-teams. They have a young team and I hope that several losses in the beginning of the season will not get into their heads.

    Comments
The first five rounds have been played and we have a couple of surprises. In the top two positions we find Björklöven and Asplöven. While Björklöven has been raised as a possible top contender before the season start, that can not be said about Asplöven. The perennial underdog has had a solid start to the series and reportedly plays a fast paced and entertaining game.

At the other end of the league table we find Sundsvall at the bottom, a position the newcomers may have to get used to. A negative surprise is Leksand with only one regulation win in the first five games. Newspaper reports say that the team occasionally plays really well but has a hard time scoring. They are also tied for the fewest goals scored.

I watched their latest game against Pantern and can only concur that they are extremely inefficient and only scored a goal once they got a chance to play 5-on-3. They also seemed undisciplined and took some unnecessary penalties.

I was impressed by newcomers Pantern who played well according to their strength and had fast counter-attacks and helped their goaltender by blocking lots of shots. I was however underwhelmed by the game settings, a mere 1000 spectators was not nearly enough to build the atmosphere in Malmö's old Ice stadium.
    Cum bibam cervisiam gaudeo.

Love seeing Asploven's start, but experience says they will fade by mid season at the latest.

Västerås and AIK top the standings after 10 rounds and they are also the teams with the best form, taking 13 and 12 of 15 points in the last 5 rounds. Västerås especially looks really strong in all parts of their game.

At the bottom we find Leksand and Sundsvall, neither of which have found any consistency in their game. Sundsvall along with Timrå only managed to rack up 3 points in the last 5 rounds.

The fact that either Leksand or Timra could be staring at Division I is simply stunning to me, in a bad way.

Nobody expected Södertälje to relegate last year, so it can happen. Södertälje had never before been in the third tier league.

Leksand is looking better (but not good) and I think they will climb. Timrå however I am not so sure about, there seems to be a lot of turbulence in the club and they are in a difficult financial position.

There are some games that won't be played until november, but Västerås and AIK are at the top of the table despite having only 14 games played.

Björklöven has fallen from 3rd to 11th place after only managing 1 point in 4 games, while Oskarshamn, Pantern and Karlskoga has travelled in the opposite direction after having a couple of good rounds adding up to 11 points each.

In the last five rounds the bottom half of the table has outperformed top top, squeezing the table together so that it is only 3 points that separate 6th from 13th place. Sundsvall is falling behind, but the other 13 teams are within 13 points, making it a very compact table.

I am very interested to see if Ostersunds IK from Hockeyettan (Division 1) can make the leap up to Allsvenskan. Not sure how they are doing there, but I have heard they are a very good team, and Israeli national Daniel Erlich plays for them.

Early days but Ostersunds are currently top of Hockeyettan Norra so ought to have a chance of promotion to Allsvenskan via the play-offs in the spring

    http://stats.swehockey.se/ScheduleAn.../Overview/6118

I had the pleasure of spending a few days in Ostersund a couple of years ago. Beautiful part of Sweden. I know that the football team are on the verge of being promoted to the Swedish Premier League (confusingly also called Allsvenskan) so I suppose I wonder if that might have an impact on sponsorship, fan support etc. I know the football/ice hockey season don't overlap so much but not sure if the city/region could support teams in the top leagues in both.

Select--> Regional--> HockeyTvåan(for Region Syd & Region Väst) or Division 2 (for Öst or Norr).

*Syd = Region South with leagues A and B
    * Väst = Region West with leagues A,B and C
*Öst = Region East with leagues A and B
    * Norr = Region North with leagues A,B,C and D

Östersund is still undefeated in regular time and has a strong team this year. They have not had great success in the playoffs previous years so I hope they are stronger mentally this year.

Daniel Erlich is doing well according to the stats, he is 10th in league scoring (2nd in Östersund) with 4+15 in 15 games.

I lived in Östersund between 2000 and 2004, and I agree it is a beautiful part of Sweden. A bit isolated is all. Can't recall any big happenings in either football or hockey back then though...

20 rounds in (well, most teams at least) and there are some unexpected teams at the top of the table. Newcomers Tingsryd leads the league ahead of AIK who finished last season in 13th place. Västerås started really strong but now has 4 straight losses. Oskarshamn is also further up the standings than usual. Pantern, another successful newcomer, rounds of the top teams in 6th place.

Behind the top teams the standings are tight. Only four points separate 7th from 13th place. Sundsvall is still bringing up the rear but has closed the gap somewhat in the last rounds.

Tingsryd continues to impress at the top and now has 9 straight wins and has pulled away somewhat from top competition AIK. Behind them Västerås and Oskarshamn continue to struggle with their form which has allowed Karlskoga to catch up.

Newcomer Pantern who started the season in radiant form now has 5 straight losses but continues to hang on to the last playoff spot.

At the bottom the standings are extremely compressed with only 5 points separating 7th from 14th place. Sundsvall is still at the bottom but has definitely closed the gap. Joining Sundsvall in the hot seat is Leksand after who replaced their coaching team after four straight losses and then managed to steal a win from Västerås with the new leadership in place.

Tingsryd and AIK continue to pull away at the top of the table and now have a healthy margin down to third place. Behind them the biggest movement is from Björklöven who has only managed 3 points in the last games. In the tight standings that drops them from 7th to 12th place. At the very bottom neither Asplöven nor Sundsvall has managed a single point in the last 5 games and that means that they have fallen behind in their quest to reach solid ground and avoid qualification.

Having seen them a few times this season, they're a VERY solid division 1 team. There are rumors floating around that they are signing two players with AHL experience for the next series. They lost a game or two here in the past few weeks, but I believe that to be because they have already qualified for Allettan, and were playing some juniors. It'll definitely be interesting to see how the next series plays out

Vita Hästen has the best form and has taken big leaps, scoring 16 pts in their last 7 games, moving them from 9th to 4th place.

Is Tingsryd being top of the league a big surprise? As a newly promoted team I didn't expect to see them doing so well.

Tingsryd and AIK continues to pull away at the top and with 12 (or less) rounds to go it looks increasingly certain that these two will play the Final series for the first qualification spot towards SHL.

The next group of six teams are quite close in points and in this group we find Västerås who has only managed two points in the last few games and is free falling through the standings at the moment. They have tried the usual first aid treatment, to replace the coach, to no avail.

In no-mans-land we find four teams who are eyeing upwards and the playoff spots, but will have to keep an eye at the bottom as well, to avoid the relegation battle.

The relegation spots are still held by Asplöven and Sundsvall. It looks very unlikely that Sundsvall will manage to catch up the 18 points they have up to safe ground, but perhaps Asplöven still has the chance to avoid the relegation series.
