    Sweden Qualification for SHL 2015/16

The qualification for SHL next season, 2016/17, will soon start.

First the winner and runner-up in HockeyAllsvenskan (AIK and Tingsryd) will face off in a final 5-game series to determine which one will play a 7-game qualification series against the 14th team in SHL (Karlskrona). The final series will be played between March 1 and March 9.

The teams in place 3-8 in HockeyAllsvenskan will play a single round-robin playoff series between March 2 and March 10. The teams in place 3-5 will start the series with bonus points and only the winner of the series will continue with a 3-game pre-qualification against the loser of the final series. i.e. AIK or Tingsryd.

The winner of that pre-qualification will face the 13th placed team in SHL (Modo) in a 7-game qualification series.

Oskarshamn started this series with 3 bonus points and took a very important win against Leksand in the first game. They have already placed themselves with a solid lead and a good chance to advance from the series.

Which will be MODO, as they after today's loss no longer can move past Rögle in the standings.

Mora is in the driver's seat with just two rounds to go in this short series. Karlskoga and Almtuna still has a theoretical chance to catch up and win the series, but need all results to go their way to do so.

Going into the last round, only Mora and Leksand can advance to the next round. As luck would have it, they face eachother in a directly decisive game. Mora has the by far best chances, Leksand will need to win by four goals or more to get ahead.

Tingsryd goes on to face the winner of Slutspelsserien.

Incredibly, but they did it. It seems like Leksand finally has some luck in qualifications for SHL as I remember them struggling to promote for years, even when they dominated the regular season in Allsvenskan with ease.

    Karlskrona HK - AIK IF 3 - 2 (1-1, 0-1, 1-0, 0-0, 0-0, 1-0) 3450 ABB Arena Karlskrona
08.59 1-0 EQ Mattias Guter (Bergström, Kellman)

AIK had a good chance in this game and was helped by their goalkeeper who played a great game. They even missed a penalty shot in over time. Half way through the third overtime period however Karlskrona scored the winner just after AIK had to change goaltenders after an injury.

Modo really gave Leksand a lesson in the difference between Hockeyallsvenskan and SHL. They were simply faster and safer in all aspects of the game. Leksand will have to do their homework and find a way to defuse Modo or this series may be over really quickly.

Lucky for Karlskrona that Holmqvist is playing out of his mind right now. Without him, they'd be down 3-0

Karlskrona are up 3-1 now. Meanwhile Leksands has somewhat surprisingly pulled back to 2-2 with Modo. All still to play for.

58.56 4-1 EQ Jesper Frödén (Fredriksson)
    SOG: 32-26, PIM: KHK 4x2, AIK 6x2

AIK was arguably the better team at the start of this series, but Karlskrona managed to steal a couple of wins anyway. In the end Karlskrona was stronger and heavier and perhaps AIK ran out of steam. Karlskrona wins the series 4-1.

For two games Leksand managed to play a tight defense and take home two wins to equalise the series. In the last game however not much worked correctly in the defensive game and Modo could run all over Leksand for three periods. Modo leads the series 3-2.

Another tight game ends with Leksand forcing a game 7. The teams were pretty evenly matched apart from a couple of minutes at the end of the second period where Leksand lost their bearings and Modo flew through the defense and scored twice. The series is tied 3-3 with the decisive game in Örnsköldsvik on Friday.

I make that an aggregate score of something like Modo 22 Leksands 9. Amazing it's going to a Game 7. I like both teams but I hope Leksands can do it.

Leksand increadibly wins the series 4-3 after Another one goal win. Three great wins for Modo, and 4 narrow wins for Leksand means that Modo plays Hockeyallsvenskan and Leksand plays SHL next season...

It's safer for my health to see highlights after the fact. Well, that and it was televised on a channel I don't have. *smile*
