Yesterday the draw for the next CHL season took place. The 48 teams were drawn into 16 groups of 3:

It'll definitely pay off for their national team to have some domestic league teams competing against Europe's best

That is welcome news. Will make the Champions League a lot more legitimate competition.

Glad to see these developments happening. But I would have loved if they were a bit more precise on how they calculate the ranking. It's a bit sad Norway is back with only one team after Stavanger and Stohamar's good showings. Maybe one day they will introduce some kind of preliminary round giving a potential extra spot for the couple of countries following right after the founding leagues. There could even be a separate bracket for founding leagues' lower ranked teams to give room for the KHL teams they still after without hurting too much everyone's spots.

Nice development! But still many questions left - why Poland is there but no Italy or Latvia!
Still hope one day to find also KHL and NHL teams there.

The CHL made a series of short videos (approx. 90s each) introducing the participating teams and their cities. I find this a great idea, it is nice to get to know all these teams from all over Europe.

Excellent start for the Swiss teams, winning all of their first 8 games. But they have not yet faced any Swedish or Finnish teams.

Speaking of Swedish teams: two surprising upsets, with Skelleftea losing in Vienna and Lulea losing in Berlin.

I like how the league has developed, the presentation is very professional, and the teams seem to take it more seriously. There are 5 minute video highlights from each game, with commentary, which I find makes a big difference to "video only" highlights. And tomorrow they will release "CHL Center Ice", with a review of the first week of play.

A first handful of teams have qualified for the knock-out round: Växjö, Färjestad, Sparta Praque, ZSC Lions, Kärpät.

Meanwhile the first Polish CHL team, ComArch Cracovia, are eliminiated. But CHL hockey seems to be popular in Cracow, they averaged over 6,600 spectators in their two home games.

Good to hear. The CHL does seem to have done pretty well attracting fans for teams playing in the smaller Euro leagues.

I'm going to the Sheffield v HV71 game tonight. Steelers put up a really good performance in Sweden but then got thrashed in Salzburg. Hoping to see an exciting game.

Swedish clubs still dominate, but swiss clubs this year clearly dominate over finns pushing them to third position.

that frolunda wouldn't make the playoffs in the khl :) omg, losing to such a shitty whl-caliber team as yunost! the level of the chl is pathetic. i'd rather stick to the khl with my favourite dinamo minsk currently dominating the league!

Are there any games between Yunost and Dinamo Minsk?

Yunost could not keep their tight defensive walls against Frolunda this time, Frolunda wins 5:0 and advances to the next round.

The "CHL Center Ice" for the quarter-finals is actually quite good. The program used to be mostly silly things, but this episode has recaps of all 4 matches and some interviews with players and coaches:
