Biography of Gustav Jaenecke & European inter-war players

    Hi everyone,

Hoping it would get interest from some of you, I've started to work on writing biography of 3 greatest European players from the 1930s - Gustav Jaenecke, Josef Malecek and Bibi Torriani.

The first one I finished is the Jaenecke one :
    http://www.hockeyarchives.info/biographies/jaenecke.htm (in French)

In the same time, I've also finished the pages with full results & standings (as much as I could) from Germany since the origin of ice hockey there. They've been added to the archives which look now a tad better :
    http://www.hockeyarchives.info/archives.htm
Of course all this is always a work in progress, so everyone is welcome to add results and correct mistakes.

The main current ongoing projects include research on these countries : Switzerland, France, Austria, Poland.

Don't be in hurry, what I call "ongoing projects" can take months or years... but they always go on, archives never stop to grow.

    Thanks
    Marc

    Marc,

Love the Jaenecke biography and the work you've done on Germany... Were you not able to find any info on the 1936 Berlin and Bavarian Championships? Noticed those were missing from the archive.

I do have one result that may be of use to you: the 1930 Bavarian Championship final. SC Riessersee 1 - ESV Fussen 0 @ Fussen. It was not played until March 4, and both teams had already played in the national championship. Source: Silesia newspaper, March 5, 1930.

I eagerly await the Torriani and Malecek biographies (I have written about them myself in the past), and also especially look forward to any additional pre-WWII info on Poland you may be able to uncover.

Thanks for all your efforts and the wonderful archive you maintain.

    Hello Marc!

Good work. It is always great, when someone presents European top players from this era!

    All the best

    Thanks for your comments.

Ben : the Berlin championships was not contested in 1936, because the season was shortened by Olympic games. I think the Bavarian championship was played too, but I couldn't get the results. Thanks for 1930 result.

Do you have access to Silesia newspaper ? I noticed your interest about Poland, and Silesia is sort of a hard voivodeship to find full results.

    Marc,

Follow this link for online access to all copies of the Silesia newspaper up to 1937: http://www.sbc.org.pl/dlibra/publica...DC32A5216E8-17 It mostly covers hockey in Czechoslovakia during the pre-war era, but there are some results from the Silesian Championship too. The newspaper is in the German language. I believe there are more newspapers from the region that can be viewed on the sbc website I linked.

I saved a few pages that had Silesian results. I will post those:

    Some info on 1931-32.

Info on 1933-34 from 2/26 issue.

Info on 1936-37 from 1/23 issue.

I am certain there is much more info on the Championship in the newspaper, but I had these files saved in my database. Cheers.

I feel like this newspaper will have the most information on Polish Silesian hockey, though. I recommend browsing through it.

Thanks for these links. Unfortunalety they are very frustrating, since they don't display well. First page of newspapers are displayed most of the time, but when I get in inner pages (sportspage is usually 2 pages from the end), it just appears 10% of the time, and never works the other times... Don't know if it works better for you

Yeah I had the same issue with that. Downloading the file and using a Djvu reader program to browse works much better. The online view format is terrible.

I added the 1933-34 season to my pages... Got the info from Przeglad Sportowy. Archive can be accessed here: http://buwcd.buw.uw.edu.pl/e_zbiory/...towy/start.htm

Some results from regional competitions seem to be missing, but I think I found most info from the paper.

I plan to add the other seasons soon.
