Less than two weeks to go before the start of the Saxoprint Ligue Magnus. A quick reminder on the new format and details.

The league has now 12 teams instead of 14 playing a quadruple round-robin for a total of 44 games instead of 26 in past seasons. The top 8 qualify for seven-of-best series playoffs. The bottom 4 play a double round-robin play-outs keeping their points gained during regular season against the teams involved. The team finishing last is relegated in Division 1.

Chamonix and Morzine-Avoriaz-Les Gets who qualified for this season joined forces and line up a common team. Home games are divided between the two clubs' arenas. After finishing a surprising 6th place last season, Brest didn't feel financially secured enough and was allowed to go down in Division 1. The two vacant spots were filled by Division 1 champion Nice and Lyon who initially was relegated following a 5th place finish in play-outs.

Grenoble will start the season with minus-6 points following sanctions over administrative and financial irregularities.

Dijon will export 5-6 games to Besançon's Patinoire La Fayette, Sunday afternoon games mainly.

Regular season start on 13th September. The game between Rouen and Gap on 14th September doubles up as the traditionnal season opening Match des Champions. It ends on 24th February. Post-season action begins on 28th February. Coupe Magnus Finals will be from 28th March to 9th April.

The second Winter Game will take place on 30th December 2016 in Lyon's 59,186-seat Parc OL between Lyon and Grenoble. But only the bottom part will be used so attendance should be more around 30,000.

After few seasons of rather disappointing coverage from l'Équipe.fr/L'Équipe 21, the FFHG signed a three-year deal with Finnish sport streaming service Fanseat.com. For €7.99 per month, you can watch ... any game you can manage to watch . Fanseat will also live stream Coupe de France action from the Round of 32 onwards. The membership also includes Finland’s second tier league Mestis, the Finnish Basketball and Floorball leagues and some Finnish soccer games. L'Équipe 21 will still bring French hockey on TV with one game per month, the Coupe de France final and the Coupe Magnus Finals from the first deciding game onward.
