    Austria Team AUT

Head coach Roger Bader has announced the roster of Team AUT for the tourney in DK. One debutant on senior NT level this time - Peter Schneider who returned to Austria last fall after having played in NA (juniors, college, ECHL) previously.

This roster seems to suggest a change of strategy as it is less developmental than so far usual for the February int. break (or basically for all int. break/NT selections during league season) and already contains plenty of names I also expect to be on the IHWC roster. Sure ppicks missing (except the 3 NHLers Grabner, Vanek, Raffl) are afaIs right now only EBEL top goal scorer Brian Lebler (Linz), team captain Thomas Raffl (Salzburg) and SHL export Konstantin Komarek.

    Update:
Plenty of players dropped out due to various reasons so the team for the tourney will in contrast to what the initial roster suggested be much more resemble a development/test squad than an outfit being as close as possible to the planned one for IHWC in May.

My Danish friends, will the games in Herning already be played in the big arena as a test for IHWC or in the regular rink?

It will be played in the regular one.

The IHWC venue in Herning (Boxen) was given its “test run” last week as it hosted this year’s Cup tournament (Final-4 format) and with the costs of renting the arena and the whole process and expenses of getting the ice/rink in place, they presumably opted for the safer setup.

But with 4 out of 6 games being played in Herning, I assume that this tournament will serve as some sort preparation for the main event in May, as other venues (Aalborg or Vojens with more modern arenas) could have hosted these games as well.
