    Icon107 Asia League 2018/19

This is more about the following season but seen as the news was announced during the 2018-19 season I guess it has a place here.

    - Nippon Paper Industries Co. have announced that they will shutdown Nippon Paper Cranes at the end of the season if they can not find a buyer. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/.../#.XCwoZlUzaUk

    - High1 will also withdraw at the end of the season. https://www.hokkaido-np.co.jp/sp/art...my8zFxFgXUeGPo

This will reduce the league to six teams for 2019-20 assuming nothing else changes; two South Korean teams, three Japanese and one Russian.

It is quite sad to see this, not least forgetting CIHA pulling the plug on Dragon to find more competitive matches. With the expectation of China starting its own league, I don't see any new teams on the horizon from here. Not that the talent level would be strong enough to compete anyway!

Sapporo is a hockey city so hopefully a buyer comes forward to take on the Paper Cranes. For the sake of reference, the only independently owned team in the league is the Free Blades.
Bringing ice hockey to Northwest China!

I'm the hole formerly known as KazakhEagles
