    2020 IIHF U20 World Championship Division I Group A

    Division I Group A started yesterday in Minsk, Belarus. Denmark is the top seed of the tournament after being relegated from the top division in 2019. Slovenia is the lowest seed after gaining promotion from Division I Group B.

    On Day 1 however Latvia shutout the top seed Denmark. Norway and Belarus picked up the other wins of the day.

    - Norway 6-2 Slovenia
    - Denmark 0-3 Latvia
    - Belarus 4-3 Austria

    Day 2 sees Denmark forced into overtime against Slovenia, Austria beats Norway to get their first points and Latvia beat Belarus (also in overtime).

    - Slovenia 1-2 (OT) Denmark
    - Austria 5-2 Norway
    - Latvia 3-2 (OT) Belarus

    Austria downs Denmark 4-2, the latter now out of the race for promotion (not that surprising) and depending on the remaining games, could be looking at its worst U20 performance in over 15 years.

    Its been a rough tournament so far for Denmark thats fore sure. The other two results from Day 3 sees Latvia easily beat Slovenia and Norway beat Belarus in overtime.

    - Slovenia 1-9 Latvia
    - Denmark 2-4 Austria
    - Belarus 2-3 (OT) Norway

    Day 4 sees another loss for Denmark this time in the form of a shootout to Norway, Belarus and Austria pick up wins in the other two games.

    - Latvia 1-2 Austria
    - Norway 1-0 (SO) Denmark
    - Belarus 4-1 Slovenia

    Austria wins promotion to the top division for 2020 after beating Slovenia 4-1 in their final game and finishing a point ahead of Latvia and Belarus. It will be their first time back in the top division since 2010 and a real improvement of last years fifth place. At the other end of the standings is Slovenia who finished with one point and is relegated back to Division I Group B. Denmark, who was the highest seeded team, finishes the tournament in fifth with only three points.

    - Austria 4-1 Slovenia
    - Norway 0-2 Latvia
    - Denmark 2-7 Belarus
