    2020 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship Division I Group A

    Division I Group A of the Women's U18 World Championships got underway yesterday in Füssen, Germany. Japan is the top seed of the tournament after being relegated from the top division in 2019. France is the lowest seed after gaining promotion from Division I Group B.

    On Day 1 Japan started of with a five nil shutout over France, Germany did exactly the same to Italy and Hungary got an overtime win against Denmark.

    On Day 2 Japan continued their theme of five nil shutouts, Hungary handed France their second loss and Germany also got their second shutout of the tournament.

    On Day three France upset Italy, Japan got their third shutout of the tournament and Germany picked up a shutout over Hungary.

    On Day 4 Italy bounced back with a win over Denmark, Hungary ended Japan's shutout streak (though not their win streak) and Germany got back on the shutout train.

    On the final day of competition Germany managed a narrow win over Japan to claim the gold and earn promotion to the top division for 2020. Germany last played in the top division in 2018. The top seed Japan finishes in second place and Hungary comes in third. Denmark finishes in last place after being beaten by the lowest seed France in their final game and is relegated to Division I Group B.

    - Japan 1-2 Germany
