2020 IIHF U20 World Championship Division II Group B

Division II Group B started yesterday in Gangneung, South Korea. The hosts are the top seed of the tournament after being relegated from Division II Group A in 2019. China is the lowest seed after winning promotion from Division III. Will be interesting how they go with all this money being pumped into their hockey system.

On Day 2 Israel continue to receive beatings this time at the hands of China, Netherlands easily defeated Croatia and South Korea got the win over Belgium. If Croatia can beat up Israel as bad a they did and then get pummeled by the Netherlands I hate to think what Netherlands v Israel is going to look like.

    - Israel 0-12 China
    - Croatia 2-7 Netherlands
    - South Korea 5-2 Belgium

    Standings
    1. China - 6pts
    2. South Korea - 6pts
    3. Netherlands - 3pts
    4. Croatia - 3pts
    5. Belgium - 0pts
    6. Israel - 0pts

On the final day South Korea defeated Croatia to win gold and return to Division II Group A. A tiebreaker between the Netherlands, China and Croatia determine second through to fourth. The Netherlands gets the better of it coming in second while the lowest seed China finishes third. So I guess their development program is working. Belgium beats Israel in their battle to survive relegation with Israel going down to Division III for 2021. They finish the tournament with a -47 goal difference.

    - Netherlands 3-5 China
    - Belgium 4-1 Israel
    - South Korea 4-2 Croatia

    Standings
    1. South Korea - 15pts - promoted to Division II Group A
    2. Netherlands - 9pts
    3. Croatia - 9pts
    4. China - 9pts
    5. Belgium - 3pts
    6. Israel - 0pts - relegated to Division III
