Thats long time ago. Sad also, that there are no more 10`000 or more Hockey Fans in Basel:(

    By the way Ambri !

yes, it is a long time ago. But I'm hard "vorbelastet". My father is originally from Ambri, and I have had exactly this picture found in a book (I think....) about Ambri.... one of the several books, where are existing...

And is it still a miracle for me, who the hell all 10'000 were standing in Basel at this time...... Once a year I play a friendly game with our Company vs. a Forwarder from Basel. We've never 10'000 spectators....

Could be, that you could find more pics about older Icerinks in my archive. Maybe we can meet us some day, but then you have to come to Wettingen, because, I've ton's of books and I would need a Truck to show you this in Bern....
    Cheers, Franco

Some folks have been scanning their old pictures of the Geleen Smoke Eaters, and their old rink.

This rink was in the exact same spot as where the current Glanerbrook rink still stands.

Construction getting underway in 1968: http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aV1zVQFS

The famous Pinkpop Festival in 1979, with Massada, the Average White Band, Dire Straits, The Police, Elvis Costello, Rush and Peter Tosh, with the old rink right behind the stage:

Some interesting info for Hockeyarenas.net :

The only remaining icerink in the belgian capital of Brussels will be auctioned off on Thursday, April 2nd (source: rbihf.be)

An adjacent concert hall wants to buy it and convert it into a restaurant and office space.

I've postend some links below containing pictures and a small movie showing the inside of the rink.

    http://www.brusselnieuws.be/artikels...rm=concertzaal (article from 2007)

    http://www.brusselnieuws.be/artikels...archterm=zocht (more recent)

According to rbihf.be, the rink closed it's doors in Januari 2008, after it's license to operate was revoked by the city government.

Vorst Nationaal (the flemish name for the rink) or Forest National (the French name, remember, Brussels is a bilingual city) is one of the oldest rinks in the country. It opened October 3rd, 1970.
