Hey insider, thats just bad, missing all the hockey. Good luck in your new job.
I hope you haven't lost out too much on flight, hotel and game tickets. Hopefully on cable over in the U.S. you can catch some of the games.

    Hey guys,

Not so much updates, but the weather is nice, women are looking fine too and Riga seem to be prepared for the WC which is welcoming you at the airport. You can see some pics here: http://www.hockeyfans.ch/blogs/wm06.php

I also was at the nice looking Arena Riga before to see the first practice of the Swiss. It's about 5 to 10 minutes by bus to Old Riga. 20 minutes by feet? I'm not so sure about this number ;)

What have surprised me a bit is that the English language isn't very widespread here and many locals didn't know that there is an Arena Riga...

A sport spezialiced bar I didn't see in my first walks.

    Cheers,

    Martin

I didn't lose any money. I had media passes, so I didn't have to pay for game tickets.

Unfortunately, none of the games are ever shown in the U.S.

I was wandering if somebody needed a place to rent during the championship in Riga. If yes, email me at eglesa@gmail.com and I will tell you more.

I agree. Even if Aldaris isn't bad. Last night I tried the beer at Lido. Very good.

About sportbars: Some restaurants are preparing for showing games for a few days. Going out in discos/clubs is nice too here.

So, what about the meeting? Are you still in? Did you find some good places?
I am gonna arrive to Riga on Monday... :drink2:

I don't see why not. There are tons of places for every taste, and we can decide even on the fly.
    Sakįrnis, are you still coordinating?

I've started my investigation into pubs in Old Riga and I find that it is just an excellent place for beer-crawling! :drink2:

I'm thinking about going to Riga on Friday, but it seems that there are no tickets left for the game 1A-2D (FIN-USA) in Arena Riga. Is there a possibility to buy tickets from dealers nearby arena? What about prices?

Thanks in advance for info :002:

There definitely are tickets. This one should be about Ls20-25 from dealers.

It's cool to be an IHG member. I just met Serbaz - he had a spare ticket to the LAT-CAN game. So I'm going to hockey again!

You're probably now thinking that you should've stayed at home instead...
I hope Latvia scores. A small reward for truly fantastic support from the fans, but at least something...

Nah, I don't regret. You cannot catch such a one actor show live every day :003:
Ready for an early afternoon beer? I made some money yesterday...

Sure, I'm always up for it. :drinker-g
I was advised to explore the B-bar near Doma Laukums and Balsam kazarmy Jekaba (although it's probably not wise to go there at afternoon :) ) What do you say?

Balsam Bar is famous for its bartenders/cocktails. That's more appropriate for evening. How about meeting on Doma Laukums @ 3:15pm for a beer nearby?

I was thinking that meeting during games might not be the best choice. If the game startes at 19:15 theres no chance to be faster than at 22:00 in the old town as it will take about 20 min walking through the centre to old town. So right now its suggested: 16th of May at 22:00 i will let know about the location after little observation on prices and possible full house situations.
So, the 16-th of May is approaching... Is anyone still up for the meeting? (I am, of course!)
Sakaarnis, have you managed to make some research?

Damn it guys, tottaly forgot about this meet-up. Im trying to finish my final paper and last couple of weeks has been very tough. Unfortunately in Old Riga everywhere prices have gone up and as far as ive noticed, full houses are still only at fridays, saturdays and sundays. I guess some irish pub should do fine. Im thinking about Tim McShane`s Irish Pub on 10 Tirgonu street, its in Old Riga.

Sakaarni, Tim McShane's is on 10 Tirgonu Street, if that's what you meant. We were there with Serbaz on Friday. The place is ok. What I propose is to meet there after 7pm and watch LAT-NOR (unless you are at the Arena :( ) . How's that sound?

    :drinker-g

Gang, this is an invitation to everybody who happens to be in Riga and is able to read this.

I can see you guys are having some great quality time in Riga! Wish I was there... Why wasn't there a thread like this one before the Olympics. I almost ended up sleeping on the street in february in Torino.

    Have fun everybody!

Serbaz, Skratch...could you take some pictures and post them in the Club House. We do have pictures from previous years but not this year. Don't worry about being drunk while taking the pictures. Just take them. :drink2:

So, I propose we meet at around 8 p.m. at Tim McShane's. I'll be wearing a red CCCP jersey with no.20 on it. :)
I'll definitely have a reason to get wasted, and hope it will be a hapy one... :drinker-g

Cool. We meet shortly after 8pm then. Sakaarnis sent me a PM, I gave him my number. Hopefully he can make it today.
