Now, forgive me for bringing the thread up after 5 months, however you have visited a hell of a lot of rinks. I noticed you have visited Whitley Bay...
You posted this in 2004 and since then I assume you have visited tons more, however at a guess I would say Whitley Bay is the worst ice rink you have ever visited. Would I be right in thinking that? haha
I dont know when you were last there but recently around the boards its down to concrete, and the puck gets stuck there quite often. I dont think you would have visited anything else as bad have you?
Not even close. Bristol Ice Rink was by far the worst I've ever been to, although I'd do anything to get it re-opened.
The old Streatham rink, the old Altrincham rink, the old Durham rink, Gosport and Leuven all instantly come to mind as rinks that were/are worse than Whitley Bay.
Graham.

You must not have been recently, the ice plant is terrible, its down to the pipes in some areas. As I said, all along the board there's no ice, where the pipes have stopped working. The generator is turned off all week and is only on at the weekends to save money, the lighting is awful as well. I was in Hull over the weekend for a rec hockey tournament, nice difference from what I'm used to at Whitley bay. Even the lighting makes such a difference.
I have, but you've not been to any of the rinks I mention. Bristol was pretty much universally agreed by the sport in this country as the worst ice rink by a long way. As a photographer, I can also tell you that it was the darkest ice rink I've ever been to by around 3 stops of light.
Graham.

I've only been in two rinks to watch games (I was only in the Bell Center for a private tour): DC's Verizon Center and Moscow's Luzhniki Minor Sports Arena. It's meager compared to a lot of you all, but I'm actively working on seeing more games at different barns now that I'm in Europe.

I can tell that ČEZ Arena and O2 Arena are my top, the best known arenas, so I can`t wait for IHWC 2015. Hockey event of my life.
Haven't been to that many sadly, but over the next two winters I hope to go to a lot more. Mainly looking to travel around New England, Ohio and maybe head up to southern Ontario and Quebec as well. Anyway, so far I've been to:
Walter Brown Arena - Boston, MA (Boston University, NCAA DI)
Agganis Arena - Boston, MA (Boston University, NCAA DI)
Matthews Arena - Boston, MA (Northeastern University, NCAA DI)*
Lawler Rink - North Andover, MA (Merrimack College, NCAA DI)
DCU Center - Worcester, MA (Worcester Sharks, AHL)
Verizon Wireless Arena - Manchester, NH (Manchester Monarchs, AHL)
Whittemore Center - Durham, NH (University of New Hampshire, NCAA DI)**
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NY (New York Islanders, NHL)
Schottenstein Center - Columbus, OH (Ohio State University, NCAA DI)
Yost Ice Arena - Ann Arbor, MI (University of Michigan, NCAA DI)
Compuware Arena - Plymouth, MI (Plymouth Whalers, OHL)
Ive also been to a few outdoor College Hockey games at:
Fenway Park - Boston, MA (Frozen Fenway, 2014)***
Progressive Field - Cleveland, OH (Frozen Diamond Faceoff, 2012)****
*Matthews Arena at Northeastern in Boston (formerly known as Boston Arena) is considered to be the oldest hockey arena in the world. I think Galt Arena Gardens in Ontario is considered to be the oldest CONTINUALLY OPERATING arena in the world due to the fact that Matthews closed a couple of times due to fire. But Matthews is older overall. Leave it to us Bostonians to burn down an Ice rink... twice.
**I never actually went to a game at Whittemore, but i've been inside the arena.
***Northeastern vs. UMass-Lowell
****Ohio State vs. Michigan
Another to add to the list. TD Bank North Garden in Boston, MA for the Beanpot Tournement. #3 Boston University vs. #6 Harvard and #11 Boston College vs. Northeastern. BU beat Harvard in double OT; the second longest game in Beanpot history.

Took a trip up to Portland for an AHL game yesterday. Its a cool arena and a great city, but the attendance left a lot to be desired. If Portland doesn't start getting people in the seats, they may be the next market to fall victim to the AHL's move west (they're currently affiliated with the Arizona Coyotes).
