    Ukraine Ukrainian Cup 2007

Ukarainian Hockey Federation has dicided about Ukrainina Cup 2007, that will be played on March, 20-24.

There will 8 teams: 5 best from highest league (by final ranking of Ukrainian championship 2006/07 that ends on 14/03) and 3 form the first league (by the ranking of previous season - this year there is not championship in the first league). If somebody will not applicate - next team by ranking can do it.

That's good, because it's the only tournament in this season where first league teams will play.

    Group stage (20-22/03):

    Group A
    • 1st place
    • 4th place
    • 5th place
    • 3rd place (Div.I)

    Group B
    • 2nd place
    • 3rd place
    • 1st place (Div.I)
    • 2nd place (Div.I)

    Final game (24/03):

    Winner A - Winner B

    That's it for now.

    Cup news

Today, the final lsit of participating teams was formed. Only two teams from second dibvision wanted to play: last year champion Donetsk (now called HK Donbass Donetsk) and HK L'vov, that didn't participate in the ;ast year competition.

Hee was allowed to play probably because there were no more teams from second division that wanted to make their applications...

So only 6 teams that were divided into two groups:

    Group A

    • ATEK Kiev
    • Sokol Kiev
    • Donbass Donetsk

    Group B

    • Berkut Brovary
    • Kompanion Kiev
    • HK L'vov

All the games wiil be played in Kiev,20-22/03, at Avangard Arena (cap. less than 1000), current Sokol arena.

Two winners will meet in the final, 24/03 at the new arena Terminal in Brovary.

There is another interesting fact. Seems that Sokol still wants to play in Europe as Ukarine Federation has announced the next decision: they will applicate to get second vacantion for ukrainian team in the CC next year. The second team probably will start from the first round.

As this Cup is actually the last chance for Sokol, the invited very strong players to help them during the cup.

First, it's Sokol's first line (that was loaned to ATEK during the championship). Also, Sokol will join next players: Sergey Klimentiev (from MVD, RSL), Oletsky, Litvinenko, Isaenko (from Gomel, BOL) and Shafarenko (from Dynamo).

As about Shafarenko, I'm in doubt because Dynamo won semifinals and will play in the Finals.

Berkut will add Gnidenko, Polnitsky and Navarenko (all from Vitebsk, BOL) and also Maksim Kvitchenko (from Khimik Mytischi, RSL).

there are no serious additions in ATEK and Kompanion, only some local juniors.

Can someone clarify for me, but...they had a regular season and called ATEK the "champion" without doing a playoff - but then they did a playoff anyway to award a "Ukrainian Cup" to the winner? Is this physically a different trophy than what the Ukrainian Champions get?
