    Slovenia Slovenian championship 2007/08

    First major moves is here..

Slavija players Samo Kumar and Uros Peruzzi signed for Medvescak. Slovak Peter Slamiar is supposed to play in GBR for Sheffield Scimitars.

Club decided to reduce their budget to 40%. It seems team rooster will be formed with youngsters.

    Possible teams are :
    - KHL Medveščak (CRO) .. no idea what is with Zagreb and Mladost
    - Slavija
    - Triglav
    - Maribor
    - Alfa
    - Hit Casino/Jesenice 2

    Not sure :
    - HS Olimpija
    - Bled
    - Celje (highly unlikely)

I read on slovenian forum that even slovenian fans are angry because Medvescak cant reach playoff.
Now,there is no point to sign foregin players,it is waste of money...and competiton is less interest because it is alreday known which six teams will go to playoff

Yes, certainly this fact is very demotivated for Medvescak. But I find it bigger disapointment the other Croatian teams do not participate...

Of course,Mladost were very good in DPS and IL B,Zagreb too...this year it wont be much hockey games in Zagreb.I remember 2005/2006 season,Medvescak 14 home games+12 games Mladost+12 games Zagreb...what a season that was ;)

Merging both leagues would benefit to both sides, and certainly the best solution for both in recent circumstances....
I mean the clubs are on very similar quality and of course the distances are not so far.

Its stupid not to alow "Medvjedi" to play play-off games, definately are better than most of our small teams, only Alfa & Slavija are stronger.

At the moment Triglav, Alfa and also Maribor are stronger than Medvescak. I dont think Slavija is.

    Croatia Friendly match

Tonight, Medveščak played against Triglav in Velesajam Ice Hall in Zagreb. In front of 30 spectators, the host won 4:3 (3:1,0:1,1:1)

I am a little curious about this league as I have friends from Slovenia, but they can't help me with one question. Is there really any interest in this league comgin from The Croatian side? 30 people at a game is terrible, I've had more people than that watching my mens league team play, all you need for that are a few family members and friends. Even if the number was 100 people that's still very small. Is this simply because it was a friendly, as some would say 'meaningless game'???

I would also like to know if people belive that the interest in the sport is growing or diminishing. I'm sure everyone on this forum would hope that the interest is growing, but I get a feeling the trend is in the negative.

    Croatia

Friendly matches do not attract any attention. In addition, no media announced the game except for two internet forums.

The interest for Medveščak's participation in Slovenian championship isn't going to be very high. Interliga games against Alba and Olimpija (who will play in EBEL this season) saw between 1000 and 2000 spectators, but games against second class Slovenian can hardly attract more than 500 people if played in big hall or 300 if played in smaller rink.

In fact, it is likely that Panonian league with participation of Croatian and Serbian teams are going to be more interesting to watch.

As it stands, the interest in hockey in Croatia stagnates. However, unless there's some strong indication of improvement in quality, there will be a collapse of interest, turning hockey in Croatia into beer league status.

im sure that there wont be even 150 spectators if medvescak decide to sell tickets. prices for hockey games are reasonable (about $3, avg month sallery in zagreb is something less than $1000) but what hey show on ice often isnt worth that money. if the entrance will be free, and they have a good run, maybe 500 will show up. slovenian clubs if they arent named olimpija and jesenice doesnt bring any intrest.

serbian clubs in panonian league will atract bigger interest in fans and likely media, but not because of hockey game, just coz we are playing against serbs. but hey, even that is something.

I'm really surprised that Medveščak can't attract more attendance, afterall Zagreb is quite a big city and Medveščak has some great hockey-past...

key word is "has great past" when sellout was a normal thing every week

clubs like maribor or alfa cant bring more than 200 fans to tivoli in ljubljana, how can they do that in croatia where ice-hockey is a marginal sport.
funny thing - croatia is powerhouse in (imho, dumb sport) handball and rk zagreb is one of the best in europe but in croatian championship they attrack less fans than hockey. also, we are world champs in waterpolo and mladost has about 300 fans on every game except derbies vr jug.
when you look at the stats, about 500-1000 fans that always came to interliga games are probably 3rd average in city of zagreb. only football (dinamo) and basketball (cibona) have more.

The only way to increase interest, in my opinion at least is at the grassroots level. For the most part people that are fans of a sport late in life, are fans of that sport early in life. Croatia needs a little investment at the youth level. If you had one more arena, you could support 1000 kids to play the game. Not saying that there would be interest from 1000 kids, just that the possibility is there.

And hey, if you need to play the Serbs to gain some interest, then maybe a few more games against them would do the sport some good, in both countries, so long as the games don't become glorified brawls.

good news dustin, we are getting one more rink, but its outdoor and is gonna be in use from nov/dec-mar; its in town near capital - zagreb...they already had a club, but had to drive for practice to zagreb. now, the rink in samobor is built, hope to see some results in upcoming years
