Thanks, I must've missed this thread. Seems like this isn't get much coverage for some reason, even though there are some neat ones like Russia's early CCCP, Czech, Latvia, Norway, and of course the Canada Cup version for Canada.

I see that DEB-Online.de has the Deutschland 1932 (hmm) retro sweaters on sale for 85 Euros. I'm thinking about it... Has anyone here in Deutschland heard anything about the quality of these?

Is Latvias blue or burgundy? The iihf website shows them blue but here they are like dark red...

correct. I do too like German vintage jersey. Latvian one does look very "old school".

The German one is nice. It's just hard to separate sport from politics as the sweater is based on the 1932 Winter Olympics when Germany won their first medal (bronze). But 1932 was also year that Hitler came to power...

It will be the navy blue version. None of the original jerseys still exist, so all they had to go on were black and white photographs. I suppose they simply figured, it being Latvia, that they were maroon and white. Somewhere in the past five months new information has come along that gave the true colour of the jersey.

Nice to see that Russia will not have the CCCP on their jerseys. Due to the genocide those four letters represent to most of Europe, it would have been wrong to wear them in their original form.

It's too bad that Belarus doesn't have a retro jersey. They apparently haven't had independent hockey until 1991 but even I can think of three alternatives for them to have as vintage jerseys:

    1) The jersey they used in their first IIHF tourney
    2) The jersey they wore when they promoted to the elite level for the first time
    3) The jersey they had when they beat Sweden in the 2002 olympics

Of course it is likely that those jerseys look a lot like the current one but at least they'd participating in this nice thought by IIHF.

Nah, there's been some changes to some of the retro uniforms since the iceTimes published last month.

Nope, it's not. It was included on the preliminary designs released in the February Ice Times, but not in the final version posted a few days ago on iihf.com http://www.iihf.com/channels/iihf-wo...e-jerseys.html

Nope. Hitler became Reichskanzler (chancellor) in 1933 and Reichspräsident (president) in 1934.

Okay - thanks for clearing that up - it was the Nazi party that came to power in July 32 elections.

    1) i really doubt someone can say how those jerseys look like :)
i personally cannot find any images of those sweaters, though i know for sure they were used by team belarus in 1994-1995.
i also really doubt that any replicas of the mentioned retro jerseys exist. that's rarity now.
one more thing, those retro jerseys had some... hmm i'd say ...specific images and symbols (http://be.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%92%...B0:Pahonia.svg) that are not welcomed by the current BLR authorities.

    2) in this case it wouldn't be that much retro :)

    3) see p.2 but the whole idea is quite bright :)

Wonder what prompted that decision? The jerseys didn't look very "retro". Neat design still though.

The German jersey is much nicer when the players are wearing them (right now) rather than just on print.

1956 jerseys commemorating Russia's first Olympic gold. It is not of question of which jersey is nicer. The symbolic value is more important.

finally i've found some images of a belarusian retro jersey.

now, that's how it looked in 1995.

What doesn't look retro about that one?

The Germany jerseys didn't quite come off as cool as I was hoping. They did not have the additional shoulder stripe as shown in the illustration and some red or yellow trim around the numbers on the back would have really made a much sharper looking package overall. Without the stripe or added color, they really came off as being rather generic black and white jerseys I'm afraid.

Awesome jersey! That logo has a lot of potential when combined with current jersey that has the addition of some green trim. That would have been a great route for them to have gone.

The German and Swiss ones looked great yesterday too. I wasn't sold on either of them until I saw the pictures and some coverage of the game. They seem to look much better on players than on paper (that's a good thing).

Latvia's looked great too, too bad they used it against Canada in the slaughter. The Italian one doesn't look all that different from their regular jerseys, but I guess that's a good thing (Swedish retros aren't going to look that different either).

I know the German one is for sale on the team Germany homesite's webstore (DEB-online.de and 80 Euro) so I'm thinking it might be the same for each team?

Italy needs to use that as their full time uniform. It looks too good, classy, and clean to use just once.

Yeah I agree. Most of the vintages have been great so far (wasn't too keen on Finland though). I especially liked Latvia, Germany, Canada, Swiss, Slovakia, and Italy's. Czech one's pretty neat too. The Tre Kronor looks like a regular uniform (just not swift, but I don't think they used swifts anyways). For some reason Canada's vintage is the only one with names on the back.

    Hello you all!

Because of my shift-work I haven't had time to watch all the games, but I do have seen some retro-jerseys!

I find it a grand idea to celebrate the first 100 years of the IIHF/LIHG!

However, I would have found it even greater, if the Canadians would have worn these National Club Team jerseys, like Manitoba University Grads, Whitby Dunlops, Trail Smoke Eaters, etc.

All right, maybe it would have been too confusing!

    All the best

I must say that all of these retro jersey are better looking than these new nike jerseys. I liked especially norway, canada, and france retro jerseys. Is it fair that canada have best team and best looking jerseys? even their new jerseys have better look than other team ones. Latvija has still good looking new jersy also, but i don't like others they are too similiar jerseys, just different logos and colours.

That was a good little review. I liked it and that you also thought Kristan's "retro pads" were a pretty cool touch.
