    Anyways, back on topic.

Are any TV numbers released regarding how many watched the game in Russia?

Not from Russia but since this came up here:

Finland's highest IHWC rating this year was 1.4 million viewers during the semifinal vs. Russia. The average for that game was 1.2 million. The one million mark was also broken during 4 other Finnish games and the final. The peak attendance of the semifinal Finland-USA was 427.000. Considering that that is almost 10% of Finns watching a game that started at 2am Finnish time, it's pretty damn good.

    Canada

    Numbers in Canada on TSN:

TSN's (English) live coverage of the Canada vs. Russia gold medal game from the 2008 IIHF World Men's Championship on Sunday afternoon attracted a national average audience of 947,000 viewers, making it the second most-watched World Championship game ever on TSN. Audience levels peaked at 1.4 million viewers at the end of the game, as Russia defeated Canada 5-4 in overtime.

TSN's audience for the gold medal game represents a 39% increase over last year's championship game and ranks second only to the 2005 gold medal game (1.35 million viewers), in which the tournament was held during the NHL lockout.

Overall, TSN's coverage of Team Canada's nine games throughout the tournament averaged 357,000 viewers, making it the second most-successful World Championship tournament (second to 2005 tourney). It also represents a 56% increase over last year's coverage, which averaged 229,000 viewers over nine Team Canada games.
To give a point of comparison, TSN's broadcasts of three NHL conference final games (Games 1, 3 and 4) between Detroit and Dallas averaged 798,000 viewers.

Combined with (French) RDS's 450,000, the total average Canadian viewing audience was 1.397 million, a good number for an afternoon game, but considering it was Canada-Russia, not great.

Interest in the tournament, played for the first time in Canada, never seemed to gain traction. All the big games were in the afternoon. And the senior tournament doesn't have the cachet of the junior tournament.

Assuming RDS's numbers also peaked at the end the 3rd period, it is safe to say that the combined English and French audience is above 2 million

0 in the USA. You'd think as a Big 7 nation we would have television coverage somewhere.

Only in Moscow every second person was watching final game according to Gallup Media, so it's +- 10 million of approx. 20 million people who live in Moscow.
As for the whole country, can't find exact numbers, but half of Russia was watching that game for sure.

Lize KazakhEagles said, there was zero TV coverage in the USA.

I had to buy an internet monthly subscription to www.wcsn.com just so I could watch the games on my computer.

    Still no concrete numbers?

As an aside, I am also curious how the media attention to the Russian IHWC win compared to the media attention of the ManU/Chelsea match on Wednesday (just trying to compare the relative strengths of the numbers following hockey and football, even though one had a home team in involved, and the other did not...)

I'm kinda surprised that football had more attention than final IHWC. On monday they showed Russian Hockey Team meeting with Mr. Medvedev and by Tuesday every single channel switched to football. Even today they show how ManU celebrates at home. WTF ?!
I mean it has not a slightest inkling to Russian sport ! I guess hockey still can't compete with football !

Sport media in Russia mostly covered IHWC over ManU/Ch game, non-sport - on the contrary, ManU/Ch over hockey.
