Lithuania Energija Elektrenai in 2008-2009 ?????

I have read in the Latvian forum that Energija Elektrenai will not play in the Latvian league this season.

Does anybody know where the team will play?

It would seem that the Lithuanian league (all amateur, and low level) and the Estonian league (all amateur, and while better than Lithuania's league, well below Latvia's league) will not provide suitable competition.

GX posted in the Latvian forum that Enegija will indeed compete in Latvia's Samsung Premier League this season after all.

Yes, our strongest team will compete in Latvia's Samsung Premier League this season :) Energija had financial troubles, but government of the city promised to redeem debt for the last season, so on the days in Elektrenai there will have the ice, and team will begin to training.
    13 08 2008 Ryga LSPA vs. Energija.

All the money are sinked in basketball in our country, all other kind of sport do not have enought finance. Ice hockey don't have normal sponsors too...for example I am playing in amateur team, and we played ice hockey all the summer, while there are no such conditions for professionals.

    Thanks for the info., Sektar!

I would assume that Energija should compete for the Samsung League title this year, as the pro and semi-pro Latvian teams are in the KHL (Dinamo Riga) or the Belarus league
(Riga 2000, Liepajas Metallurgs, ASK/Ogre, Latgale) and not in the Samsung league.

Energija is semi-pro, correct? In this year's Samsung league, the Latvian teams all seem to be either elite youth teams or simply men's amateur teams.

Does the team have big expectations for this season?

There are no financial condition to have normal pro hockey club in Lithuania :( Yes, it's true, what Energija is semi-pro, but almost all players of Energija have pro skill, anyway they several years are playing for national team of Lithuania, so how can semi-pro or amateur player compete in 1division of IIHF world championship? :)

in first round Energija can expect to be in the top of Samsung league, but when will begin playoffs, there will join strongest latvian teams, such as Metalurg,Ryga2000,Ogre, Latgale...
