Ah? Wolves play in IIHL? Not in the development league? What is the teams this year? In the IIHA website, they don't speak about.

The IIHL will include this year:

Belfast Tesco Giants (formerly the Scottish National League club)
    Dublin Rams
    Dublin Wolves
    Dundalk Bulls
    Flyers I.H.C.
    Latvian Hawks

IIHLDD will include (as far as I know)
    Belfast Tesco Junior Giants
    Belfast City Bruins
    Blackrock Whalers
    Drogheda Ice Breakers "A"
    Drogheda Ice Breakers "B"
    Dublin Rams "B"
    Dundalk Bulls "B"
    Dundalk Lady Bulls
    Flyers I.H.C. "B"
    Kilkenny City Storm
    Latvian Hawks "B"

I'm still waiting to see this confirmed on the IIHA website, and awaiting confirmation on participants and rosters from the IIHA.
Once I get that information, I'll put together a proper all-in-one IIHL thread for the season.

Yeah, it's me. Pretty damned good pic, if you ask me.

We played a game in the summer with 6 skaters, all we did was send one guy deep and trap all game. We were outclassed to start with, ended up losing 7-2 but it was tied with 8 minutes to go (and then we ran out of gas).

I think I played one 28-minute shift that game.

Incidentally, if you do have a game while I'm in Ottawa, I can bring my hockey lens along and shoot some photos of your team. Always happy to have an excuse to keep my eye in.

It's the Belfast Giants junior team who play in IIHA, not the team from the scottish league. They play in Dundonald in a 1500 seats rink.

But I don't found informations about Belfast Giants (the second team) in Scottish National League...

That would be hugely appreciated. We're trying to do a full team-set of cards that would be printed (a joint project of a couple of the players) but our photographer is now a player, so .. i'll let you know once the scedule is offical (shoudl be soon)

The TESCO Junior Giants technically have no links to the EIHL Giants.
They are an independent club, that the EIHL Giants helped find a sponsor, but otherwise they are completely separate.
Last season they played in the Scottish National League, but for this season they decided to join the IIHL instead (for travel reasons I suppose). They do have their home games at Dundonald, with reportedly pretty good attendance in the first game.
They also have a junior development club (U20 team) in the IIHL Development Division

The results from the weekends game were hawks-3 rams-1 this was a brillant game to watch were both teams were evenly matched for most of the game with the hawks fitness levels just giving them the edge in the game whilst on sunday it was another typical bulls game were they ran out 20-1 against the junior giants there was nothing really good in the game expect that the giants never gave up and skated with the bulls for the whole 60 minutes its a pitty the score was so big in the game next weekend sees the rams play the wolves on saturday night and the flyers take on the wolves on sunday afternoon so hopefully these games can be good and intresting to watch and take part in

    Hey Davide

In the A League the Dublin Wolves have folded.

They are going to continue with their Recreational team next year though.

    Have a look here

sorry miceal only saw this now... you probably alreayd found out about this but they are some recci team called the flyers.. not sure where they were from. i think it finished up 8-2 to them though... i think we're playing a team from maine next week.

DAVIDE: Yeah the wolves have folded, I think the Giants have called an end to their season but a new belfast team has started up called the castlereigh spartans, who will be in the IIHL next season... I also think the bulls had some internal problems and a few of their north american players left

some offical word from the IIHA

Sadly the I.I.H.A. must announce the premature closure of the 2009 season which has been forced on the premier division of Irish Ice Hockey leaving us without the opportunity to stage our Playoff Tournament before high Summer is upon us.

No fewer than three separate dates were suggested, for what was finally whittled down to single game, and which would bring our season to it's conclusion. Every proposal was turned down by the only rink currently available. Regrettably we see no other option but to postpone the 2009 Playoff Final between the Hawks and the Dublin Rams to later in the year when more opportunities might be available to the Association.

This disappointing news came on the very weekend when 10 hours of icetime were provided, at the Associations expense, in Dundalk, concluding a wonderful IIHL Recreational Division season, indeed, the sport as a whole has been a huge supporter of the rink since its inception, but sadly, and all too often, that support has not been reciprocated.

On a more cheerful note we look forward in anticipation, to a new venture which hopefully can correct the situation that sees Dublin as the only capital city in Europe without an ice rink.

An announcement is imminent on a new facility, easily accessible from the M50, on Dublin's Northside. Hopefully this arena will be more welcoming to, and supportive of, The Coolest Game on Earth, so check back regularly on www.iiha.org for the latest developments as we are looking into the possibility of showcasing the sport, over the summer, here in the nation's capital , from where it has been absent for far too long.

good news about the new rink (if it does infact go ahead) but it should hopefully stop the ice dome holding the league to ransom

    pretty much....

i read on the kingdomofthegiants.co.uk that the jr giants still might have a team for next year, just depends on what numbers they get.. So that should be a great rivalry up there if it happens

As kevmc said on faceoff.ie, this season was dominated by the celtic cup. It seemed that's all the bulls and the ice dome were interested in. Which resulted in the IIHA/IIHL getting royaly shafted. Hopefully with the new rink in dublin *crosses fingers*, the ice dome are going to have to to have to act like cian o'connor and get off their high horse (in case you didn't get little joke http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cian_O%27Connor)

Also posted on faceoff was this like observation/opinion/theroy by aaronc. which kinda makes you think considering the ice dome makes ALOT of money from ice hockey

    Question ?
........... Why did the bulls not play in playoffs , and why did the dome not give ice time . I heard it was because most of the players brought in to play for the bulls went home to USA and Canada ......if the had no players would that could be why they were scuppering the chance of another team being allowed to be 08/09 playoff champs by not letting the dome give ice time for this event .................thats just a theroy , does anyone know any different .

We'll just have to wait and see what happens

There is an interesting thread about the A League going on now!

Carnie i have photos of the game, Dean has a copy as well i will try and get them up on the internet today. (Prison Break is the priority at the minute )

The team they played were good years of experience showed during the game with crisp passing and finishing!
