Looks like Vojens (SønderjyskE) and Frederikshavn are the teams to beat this year.

It's incredible how consistent SønderjyskE has been the last couple of years. I still remember the old days, when they where constantly among the bottom teams, and even relegated to the 1. Division a few times. The highlight of the year then, would be the games against Esbjerg, were a victory could save the entire season. Now a days it is almost disappointing if they don't win the championship.

They still seem to have a problem producing their own youth players though, so I fear for the day when their budget sinks to the same level as the other teams.

They probably have it going for them, that they are located in a community, where hockey is the only elite sport, and therefore get most of the sponsorship money from the local business. The same is probably true for Frederikshavn. Teams like Esbjerg, Odense, Aalborg (Aab) etc. are competing with soccer and handball, and are therefore handicapped, especially during the recession.

Just buy them at the arena once you get there :) Shouldn't be a problem.

I think that Sønderjyske has done a good job of signing younger players from other teams and thereby avoided a situation where they would have to use players from their own youth department, who either weren’t good enough or ready to play in the AL Bank-Liga.

Of course it also helps Sønderjyske that they are working with a budget significant higher than most of teams in the league and it have allowed them to retain the core of their team, and unless the salary cap is lowered or Sønderjyske will have reduce their budget, it would appear that they will be able to dominated Danish hockey for several years. You can always hope some of the other teams over time will be able to match Sønderjyske financially, but it does seem to be real long shot at the moment.

No you can hope that Sønderjyske starts lowering their budget, so they don't inflate the league more than they've already done the last couple of years. SønderjyskE ishockey alone had a 2 million deficit last season. Yeah, congrats on dominating the league, very big achievement - not.

Sønderjyske, could argue that other teams had the exact kind of approach some seasons ago. It’s a fair argument and as long as the parent company can cover the losses without violating the league rules regarding the salary cap, Sønderjyske can continue to dominate, even tough it won’t benefit the league long term.

I think the two are connected. I mean, let's face it, no one, especially a young person, would want to come live in Vojens if not for the money. It is not exactly a happening town compared to Copenhagen, Aalborg or Odense :-)

Only two. Esbjerg has signed Markku Tähtinen(F) and Aleksandrs Macijevskis(F) has returned to Sønderjyske on a short term loan deal.

Pasi Tuominen as well I guess even though his try-out with Esbjerg started the 29th of last month, but was confirmed as succesfull at the same time as Tähtinen was signed.

An(according to reports) highly motivated and hard working Odense team. A Sønderjyske team, that gave up two shorthanded goals and registered the first lost in regulation, since the first game of last season’s playoffs.

Missed that one. In addition, Daniel Madsen has returned to Herning.

    Hello,

I'm going to be in Denmark from 17 Dec. 'til 3rd Jan. and I was wondering where can I see dates of games during that time, and the place they are being played, as I would like to see some games.

    Thanks

Well not too many to pick between just in that period, there's a national team break (Swiss Cup) between the 10th of December to the 22nd, so theres games on the 22nd of December and then again at the 28th:

    Well then you got:
22-12-2010 19:00 Rødovre Mighty Bulls (currently 5th) vs. SønderjyskE (currently 1st)
    or
22-12-2010 19:30 Hvidovre Ligahockey (currently 4th) vs. Blue Fox Herning (currently 2nd)

Hvidovre and Rødovre both being suburbs of Copenhagen.
Their arenas are here: Hvidovre & Rødovre
Pretty much same amount of travelling needed for either of them from Humlebæk. Would have been much easier if Rungsted/Nordsjælland (arena located in Hørsholm just south of Humlebæk) still had an elite team playing, that's very close to Humlebæk. They do however still have a 1. div team, which is the danish second league.
